Hey LinkedIn Fam!
Happy Thursday.
Honesty time…I hate failing. I mean, but who does?
And check this out…How many times have I failed in my career? Too many to count.
I failed at getting jobs.
I failed at jobs... Hell, there was even one time I almost got FIRED.
I failed when asking for more money.
I failed at trying new things and projects.
But one thing I do know is that I kept trying. And keeping at it is NOT easy. Every time I failed, my perfectionism and impostor syndrome would start to take hold.
I’d want to shut down.
Overthink every aspect of what happened.
And ruminate on everything that went wrong, including what I could have done better.
But those actions only take you deeper into the failure and lead to inaction. And we don’t have time for that!
Instead of falling into this trap, see failure as a point of reflection—an ability for you to learn. A moment to pivot. But continue.

And here are four ways you can do just that and overcome your fear of failure:
1.?Don’t take your failures personally.?Above all else please know that failure does not define you. YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE. And in this game called life, failing comes just as often as succeeding. Hell, I actually think it comes more often! So never in any way take the failure to heart and always keep it moving, boo.
2.?Identify what you can learn from the situation.?I'm a lifelong learner. In fact, if someone would pay me to collect degrees, I'd take that job in a heartbeat. And so when failure comes around the biggest thing I like to do is ask myself...what is your biggest takeaway? Failure is just a moment for reflection. To make some changes to your process. And to course correct. Sometimes the lesson is actually the biggest success.
3.?Don’t dwell on the failure.?Release it! Take your time to feel it. Learn from it. And then work to let it go. Holding onto failure feels heavy and hurts. So why not allow yourself to put it down and walk away...metaphorically speaking.
4.?Talk it out. Oh boy...my friends should charge me for all the times I've come to them with my perceived failings. But chatting it up with your supporters is a great way to work through failure. Why? Because they see you for your greatness and can be the first people to help you work through any situation. So don't isolate yourself after a failure. Grab your crew and wine, and chat it up.
We fail and keep going.
Cheers to you failing and learning,
Jasmine
