Ask questions before confronting them. To keep the conversation from turning into an argument, ask your questions as if you are curious about what they are doing rather than being accusatory or confrontational.

Be flexible where possible. There will always be some level of looseness in rules, and you should make sure that you aren’t fighting with a good employee because of too much rigidity.
