4 Warning Signals IT Managers Should Pay Attention To When Hiring Candidates

Being an IT Manager always involves hiring fresh personnel, and the process involves more than just examining resumes and doing interviews. Recruitment errors, such as a job description that is poorly written or a lack of communication regarding applications, may discourage a competent applicant from applying for a position with you. You will quickly be able to find and employ the top people, though, if the proper hiring and onboarding procedures are put in place.?

Here are four things you should pay attention to when hiring tech candidates

1. Impolite attitude:

When building an IT team that can solve many problems that any organization might face, it is essential for the team members to have the necessary technical skills that will allow them to work on a project. However, this is not enough as the candidate needs to show that they have the necessary soft skills that will allow them to get along with their colleagues, and cross-collaborate with other sectors of the business that they might interact. IT managers should never disregard the bad attitude of a potential candidate, as it might create for your headaches later in the future.?

2. Doesn't understand the vision:

If a candidate is primarily focused on technology and shows little interest in your product, its market, or the problems it addresses in real life, this is not a good indicator. No matter how strong one's technical abilities are, they are useless if the product or service fails to solve a real-world business problem, give genuine value to the end user, and be extremely effective for the company's business. For this reason, applicants must have a solid grasp of the company's mission and what it hopes to accomplish through its goods and services.

3. Their career development is not the priority:

The applicant must explain how they intend to support the group's purpose and objectives. They must be motivated to learn, advance, expand, and continually contribute. They are probably not a suitable fit if they haven't considered how they want to benefit the company and progress in their profession.

4. Boasts expectations

If the candidate is acting like he/she is a know-it-all, and are exaggerating the skill sets that they have, you should think twice before hiring them. You need to be sure that candidates can deliver on their promises since in the IT industry, acts shout greater than words. The way you can actually know whether a candidate does have the right skills for the job, provide them with a test that would challenge their skills, and set a timer for it. This way, you’ll be able to tell whether the candidate does actually have the skills that are required in the job.?
