The 4 Types of Quality Inspection and Their Benefits (Part 2)
Welcome back to our blog series on types of quality inspection! In this series, we explore four primary types of quality inspections: pre-production, during production, pre-shipment, and container loading/unloading inspections, along with their benefits. We will demonstrate how solutions from FILTEC and Pressco support these crucial steps, starting with pre-production and during production.
On to the second and final part of this blog series: Pre-shipment Inspection and Container Loading/Unloading Inspection!
3. Pre-shipment Inspection
Purpose: To evaluate the quality of finished goods before they are shipped.
Benefits:
Pre-shipment inspections are typically performed when 80-100% of the order is completed. Inspectors check for defects, compliance with specifications, and overall product quality, providing a final quality assurance checkpoint.
For example, on a beverage fill line for carbonated soft drinks in bottles or cans, the fill level of these products are measured to ensure they meet the proper level before shipping. Another possibility is adding barcode traceability to the beverage containers to make sure the contents of the bottle match the brand of soft drink on the label. And it's also possible to make sure any leaking containers are discovered before the products are shipped to stores, which is incredibly important from a health and safety perspective, not to mention product loss and potential unplanned downtime on the fill line!
4. Container Loading/Unloading Inspection
Purpose: To monitor the loading and unloading of products to ensure proper handling and shipping conditions.
Benefits include:
This inspection type is essential for ensuring that products are handled properly during shipping. It verifies that the goods are loaded securely and checks for any potential damage or discrepancies.
Filtec also makes it possible to inspect cartons and cases before the palletizer to ensure the correct contents are in each case and that each container has the correct amount of contents. This is an ideal way to make sure you haven't missed any incorrectly filled or leaking containers, or containers with the wrong label/brand before sending the items to stores.
Conclusion
Each type of quality inspection serves a unique purpose and offers distinct benefits. By incorporating these inspections into the production and shipping process, companies can significantly improve product quality, reduce risks, and enhance customer satisfaction.
