For me personally, this March will be my 12th ProMat show (not counting ProMatDX in 2021). As one of the largest events in material handling and supply chain innovation, it always provides a glimpse into the future of warehousing and logistics. While I don't have a crystal ball, based on industry momentum and past ProMat experiences, here are the four key trends I anticipate seeing front and center at this year’s show—along with some personal insights.
1. Harnessing Data, AI, and Machine Learning
I’m excited to see the specific ways data, AI and machine learning are being adapted specifically to the warehouse for real change. Predictive maintenance, supply chain visibility, and AI-based quality control systems are just a few of the applications I expect to see on display. By leveraging data with AI, warehouses can create solutions that analyze product packaging in real time to detect defects or inconsistencies, ensuring every shipment meets the highest quality standards. What excites me most is seeing how these tools can provide actionable intelligence—helping warehouses make smarter, faster decisions for operations.
2. Wearable Technologies
Wearables are having their moment, and for good reason. At ProMat 2025, I think we'll see advanced gloves with scanning and data capture capabilities and smart glasses that enhance worker efficiency and safety. These wearable task assistants aren’t just about technology; they’re about making workers’ lives easier by streamlining tasks and reducing physical strain. The idea of human-centered automation is becoming a reality, and it’s fascinating to witness how these tools are transforming traditional warehouse roles.
3. Collaborative Robots (Cobots) and End-of-Arm-Tooling (EOAT)
Cobots and their sophisticated end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) are set to steal the spotlight. Watching cobots equipped with hybrid EOAT switch seamlessly between vacuum and mechanical clamping technologies is the future. These smart gripping systems even provide real-time feedback, enhancing precision and adaptability in dynamic environments. The ability to collaborate safely and efficiently with humans makes these robots a game-changer, and I can’t wait to see how exhibitors are pushing the boundaries of this technology.
4. Integration & Connectivity: ASRS, AMR, AGV
Integration and connectivity will be central themes at ProMat 2025. Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), and Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) will be showcased not as isolated technologies but as interconnected solutions. Imagine an ASRS retrieving goods and seamlessly handing them off to an AMR for precise delivery, while conveyors, sorters, and a Warehouse Management System (WMS) synchronize the entire operation. This level of connectivity is not just about efficiency—it’s about building smarter, more adaptive warehouses. ProMat 2025 will highlight how these technologies combine to drive operational excellence and redefine the possibilities of warehouse automation.
