A friend recently contacted me about setting up Facebook ads for her coaching business. I had to advise her against it after reviewing her online business for various reasons, some of which I have addressed in this piece.

A successful business is built on solid foundations.
This is done by clearly defining the mission, vision, and values from the start. When any of these essential components is lacking, the likelihood of achieving or sustaining success diminishes significantly over time.
2. Become an Expert:
Know your services or products inside and out before engaging in any kind of marketing.
The best way to communicate the advantages of your services or products to potential customers is to be competent and excellent at what you do.
3. Clearly Identify your Target Customers:
Without a clear understanding of your target customer, how do you know where to locate them or what to do to attract and retain them?

How do you locate them if you don't take the time to fully understand who they are—their thoughts, their hobbies, where they hang out, etc.?
4. Have a Good Reputation:
A good reputation helps a business attract the customers necessary for its success.
According to numerous surveys, nine out of ten buyers say that when deciding between two items that are comparable in terms of price and quality, they base their decision on the company's reputation; (1993, Mackiewicz).
Having a good reputation helps potential customers make faster decisions with confidence.
