The world is noisy, and the pace of change is fast
Introverts are not just quiet; they need quietness to thrive. Many introverts are also not known to love fast changes, they are more inclined to favour a steady pace of change.??
You have heard it said that “introverts have the loudest minds”, this means, ideas and thoughts are swimming around in the head constantly, which need to be expressed to quieten the mind.
It does not help that the world has gotten so much noisier, especially online. It is increasingly harder to focus and navigate the current world.?
Since 2020, there has been continuous increase in activities, conversations on-line, marketing, and even scams have gone off the charts.?
It is increasingly harder to focus, yet it is vital to stay informed, to pick the “wheat from the chaff” of news so you stay safe, to discover what really matters, and to recognise and seize opportunities as they come.?
As an introvert you must find ways of coping and focusing to thrive.??
The default for most is to shrink back to find solitude and serenity to hear themselves think or to escape and be alone to recover. Some even throw in the towel and quit social media and socialising just to survive..???
There are different types of Introverts, therefore problems with finding focus in a noisy and busy world will affect each one differently.?
The Thinking Introvert ? - The Thinking introvert is great at introspection but prone to overthinking. They love to be in their heads, which means where the noise has increased, there will be a tendency for overthinking decisions and actions, increasing “analysis paralysis” and inability to move forward and make decisions. Basically, procrastination increases.?
The Anxious Introvert (an introvert who has anxiety about interacting in social circles) - The anxious introvert will shrink back into solitude to avoid noise and busyness, which then means slowing down from taking action and connecting with people to make things happen.?
The Social Introvert - Of all four types of introverts, the social introvert might cope with the noise more, however social introverts do get exhausted after being in crowds and get energy drained.? With increased busyness, they will attempt to keep up, which will lead to burnout very quickly, this can result in serious health issues.
The Restrained Introvert - The restrained introvert will get more cautious and calculating because of the amount of information and activity around. Just like the thinking introvert, they will overthink more, interact and trust less, and shrink back from involving themselves in activities for fear of overwhelm and being taken advantage of.
As an introvert, you may be reading this and recognising the challenges you are facing.? The situation can look very bleak, however, as Billy Ocean says, “when the going gets tough, the tough getting going”.?
?It is time to call upon your introverted superpowers as well as develop strategies to help you thrive.?
Here are some ways you can do this:

Having described the challenges each type of introvert faces, you can take some time out to use your introvert superpowers of introspection to ask yourself, what are my challenges in the current situation, how is it impacting me and how can I thrive??
2. Find your “comfort zone”
I know the main advice from coaches is to step out of your comfort zone. In this instance, life might be very challenging and progress slow for you. Therefore, finding that “sweet spot” where you can thrive is the key to helping you step out to do what you want to do, feeling empowered and capable of thriving.? Find what is within your control and control it. Find the courage to figure out what no longer serves your higher good or drains you and your energy so you can walk away from it
3. Develop Your Engagement Strategies
To take back control requires strategies. You want to develop and execute strategies that help you thrive.?
The simplest way to look at strategy is to treat it as a “Roadmap to Success”.? You do this by?
4. Lead Your Life?
Instead of being blown around by every wind of change, be determined to “lead your life, not just live it”.? This means you take ownership and responsibility to define how the current challenges will impact and affect you. It also means equipping yourself to thrive. Sometimes this might mean finding ways to adapt and align with the changes or being the catalyst for change.?
As James Clear (Author of Atomic Habits) would say “if you feel inadequate to play the current games, find and develop your own game”.??
Basically, think like a leader. A lot of challenges come from trying to prevent the impact of the noise and busyness on you. To transform from being the victim into the victor, you can step up your leadership capabilities and capacity and find answers not just for yourself, but for others too.?

2 年I saw myself in 3 of the 4 introvert types! Maybe we are different degrees of each? I didn't see myself as an anxious introvert, but in-person events, I feel it - especially unstructured "just go tackle the crowd" type of events. I got better online. Designed an event structure which increases the comfort levels for introverts, albeit we will all still be triggered to a degree. I feel structure - knowing what you will have to do - increases the comfort. It's because you know you will only have to outline what you do briefly. I got others to host these events but eventually took the plunge and now host most of them. You should come as my guest? There will be 3 breakout room sessions - 5-6 people in two of the sessions, and then a final 1-2-1 breakout. Tell those you meet what you do when it's your turn. If that would be of use it's on 18th October at 12:30 - let me know and I'll send you the Zoom link.
