Think about the goal you have for it. What exactly do you want this email to cause? Is that a good thing for you? Could it end badly?

Make sure you have the situation straight. Before you send an email, make sure that the reality matches up with what’s in your mind; don’t send something off and then find out that you misunderstood.

Give options in your email. If you want something, make it clear what it is that the person can fix or do, and if possible, give them some alternatives to consider.

Write a draft and wait. Especially if you’re feeling emotional about the content, give yourself some time to cool down and then decide whether you want to send the email, revise it or delete it.
