What is present in my mind as we move unto a new year is —how can I truly develop and embody an Abundance Mindset? How can I keep an open mind with optimism and responsibility as I experience life, and not live my life with jealousy or envy of others? How can I continue to be a light in a world of darkness and leave a trail of hope? How can I believe in myself proudly and unapologetically? How can I think bigger and I share the light and wisdom within me while I respect other people’s brightness and cheer them on, too!
I believe many of us have a scarcity mindset, especially those who have experienced financial hardships, been betrayed by friends or family, or been traumatized by life’s events. If you grew up in an environment where your basic needs were scarce, then having a scarcity mindset is very common and natural because it helped you survive.
However, as you begin to succeed in life, a scarcity mindset can hinder your growth, your relationships or your ability to dream bigger. Check out the image below highlighting the difference between an abundance versus a scarcity mindset, created by Megan Hallier.
A scarcity mindset believes that the world has limited opportunities, resources and money, and only the lucky ones make it. For instance if life was a finite circle, someone with a scarcity mindset believes that every time a part of the circle is taken, it means there is less for the rest of us to take.?As a result, many people feel the need to cling onto money, things or people because there is a deeper fear that it will be gone any second. It feels as if so much is out of our control and blaming others for what happens to us is a common response. Often times, we live in a state of anxiety because chaos or failure are the expectation. People with a scarcity mindset complain often, are envious of others and believe they are a victim of their circumstances. Ultimately, this mindset drives the unconscious beliefs and responses of our life and how we deal with situations.
In a way, it can superficially feel good to have a scarcity mindset because the responsibility is on others rather than yourself. We can pretend that life is happening to us, not for us. We don’t have to think deeply or worry about the consequences of our actions. We don’t understand the true impact we have on every single one of our relationships.?
However, the person we envision to be in 2022 is greater because we acknowledge the impact our mindset has on everything we do. We are ready to think bigger, be happier and take ownership for how we live our life. We are ready to try new things and strengthen the relationship with ourselves to be and do more!
Our mindset is directly linked to the quality of our happiness and fulfillment on Earth. It is our best friend and the companion of our lives. It shapes our perspective on life and incentives our actions. The mind uses our past to define what’s possible for us. To access new possibilities, we need to access a different point of creation.
You can develop an abundance mindset just like you develop confidence. Having an abundant mindset will help you give and receive love, opportunities, resources, better relationships and more. It will also help you recover and bounce back from hard times because you know everything happens for a reason. In addition, thinking in abundance will encourage you to feel plentiful, creative and inspired. ?
Here are 4 ways to develop an Abundant Mindset:?
1.Be Mindful of the Language You Use. The words we use on a daily basis are often a reflection of our thoughts, our deeper intentions and what we want from the world. However, often times what we say and what we want does not align. In the book "The Four Agreements" by Miguel Ruiz, the first agreement is to be Impeccable with your Word. The author explains that your words are magic and that you can use your words to create good in the world, or to create chaos and spread negativity, whether it is to yourself or to others. It is important that you say what you mean, and say so with integrity, honesty and kindness. Use words that are empowering and never stop working on your communication skills as you evolve in order to communicate better with yourself and others.
2. Upgrade your Current Belief System. It is important to have a positive self-talk, become more self-aware about your limiting beliefs and empower yourself on a constant basis. You must believe you are worthy of abundance, happiness and success to attract more of it into your life. However, we must begin by confronting our fears, because our fears are our limits. As humans, we have a negativity bias which means that our brains tend to focus on anything that goes wrong, or what we fear may go wrong because this mindset would help us survive in a world of scarce resources. However, that is no longer the case and where focus goes, energy flows. Our minds are like a garden that will grow from what you are feeding it. Your thoughts and your focus feeds your mind. Affirmations and gratitude statements help tremendously to guide your thoughts and attention on what you want to focus and what you want to believe. This doesn’t work over night, but when you are consistent, your brain will eventually find reasons to believe what you are reciting and integrate it into your perspective. Here are some examples:?

3. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others, seriously. One of my favorite quotes by President Theodore Roosevelt says “comparison is the thief of joy” because it can indeed make you miserable. It’s important to realize that there will always be people who have more than us in certain areas of life and there will also be times when we have more than others. But here is the truth - another person winning does not mean that you are losing. In fact, celebrating others can fast track your success. When you celebrate others instead of getting jealous, you put out a frequency of gratitude and abundance rather than scarcity or fear. Constantly comparing yourself to others is a way to self-sabotage yourself and constantly reinforce the detrimental idea that ‘you are not good enough’. Your brain will use that comparison as a bench mark of your success, when in reality, this is an illusion. The only one you should compare yourself to is YOU. Worry about the grass being greener on your side rather than the other side. Your mission is to become better today than you were yesterday. You do that by focusing on what you can do to improve and grow. Eventually, you will be greatly encouraged by your progress and realize that no one else will work on your happiness, growth and fulfillment more than you. Embrace your uniqueness, your creativity and all that you are because they are your greatest superpower.
4. Make your Well-Being a Priority and Take Action. Invest in Yourself. Take care of your body, mind and spirit. In order for us to embody an abundant mindset, it is important to sleep well, exercise, eat healthy, drink water, journal, address your emotions, laugh, dance and understand what you need to do in order to feel your best. Make the relationship you have with yourself stronger by making it a priority and dedicating time to your personal development. Consequently, use that as fuel and momentum to take action on what you want. Most of the time, we believe that we should be proficient the first time we do something when in reality, perfection only comes with practice. We must be willing to start at where we are, with what we have, in order to move forward, impact others and achieve more. “The only impossible journey is the one you never begin.” - Tony Robbins
All of these tips can help you develop and embody an abundance mindset moving forward. You must consciously work on this, as it is not an overnight transformation. An important element of thinking in abundance is being aware that Our actions have an impact. It is our responsibility to take the actions that will take us closer to our abundant reality and what we envision. Lastly, appreciating what we have and how far we have come is imperative. If you are not grateful for what you have, why should you be given more? Showing gratitude encourages an abundant mindset because it is proving to yourself and the powers of the Universe that be that you are cognizant of the blessings currently in your life.
