4 things You Can Focus on After Learning Microsoft Excel

4 things You Can Focus on After Learning Microsoft Excel

Business Intelligence Software

Most organizations are now using one or another form of BI software. That is why I made this my #1 recommendation. We can use BI software to analyze and make sense of large datasets. While there are plenty of software offerings in this space, I recommend focusing on either Power BI or Tableau for starters. Or may be learn the tool that your organizations is already using.

#2 SQL or Database Skills

If you enjoy working with data, learning SQL (Structured Query Language) is a great way to enhance your skillset. Most data is maintained in structured databases or warehouses these days. SQL helps you access this data and answer business questions easily. It is not that hard to learn and once you know it, you can use it in multiple systems and situations.

#3 Programming

May be you enjoy the?formula building, Power Querying or DAX?parts of Excel. If that is you, I think you will LOVE programming. With programming or coding, we just talk to computers and get things done. If you have never programmed (or done a bit of it back in school days), I suggest learning VBA or Python. Both of them are easy languages to learn and apply for work situations. Programming + Data skills is one of the hottest combinations to have on your resume.

#4 Modeling

I don't mean?that?kind of modeling. I mean building?financial / project / business models?with Excel.?This is a special type of skill that uses Excel to solve real world problems, especially in banks, project based situations and consultancy. Financial Modelers are one of the highest paid Excel professionals too.

So those are the 4 things worth considering.

Which one do you want to learn?
