It is very important that you control your mind and not allow it to wander without your conscious direction. Through your mind, you direct your life and create your reality. Your mind directly impacts your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
Your mind can be a source of joy and peace, or it can keep you trapped in a suffering and fearful state. If you cultivate fearful thoughts, fear is what you experience, and if you cultivate loving thoughts love is what you experience. It follows that your mental attitude and its direction are critical factors in how you experience and navigate your life.
If you do not consciously guide your mind, you will continue recreating your life from your past experiences and from what you already know. It keeps you in the same cycle, having the same thoughts emotions, and reactions, thus giving you the same results. You can't create any change in your life if you continue recreating it from the same conditioned way of thinking.
Now, what can you do to start taking control of your mind?
1- Practice presence and meditation. This is a great way to start directing your mind.
- You can use Insight Timer App as a resource for meditation. They have a free library from which you can select a guided meditation that would work best for you.
- I would recommend this 7 days meditation course to get you starting. It is free :)
2- Direct your impulses. Every time that you notice an impulse, be aware of it and ask yourself if it will be productive for you at that moment, and choose your action.
3- Be present. When you notice your mind wandering, take five breaths and bring it back to the task at hand. If you are eating, focus on eating, when you are driving, focus on the driving.
4. Take occasional cold showers. Notice the resistance of your mind and body when you are about to jump into the water. Consciously guide your mind and go for it. Stay under the water for a few seconds without moving and guide yourself to focus on your breathing. Relax into the cold, allow it, don't resist it.
Take control of your mind and start seeing how your life transforms! :)
