Are you a content creator on LinkedIn?
If not, you should be.
That’s if you want to attract your ideal clients, increase your income and grow your business through LinkedIn.
If you don’t want to do any of that, you can go ahead and skip this article and carry on sharing viral quotes and random news articles on your posts ;-)
But if you do want to become a content creator - and a great one at that - this article will help.
But first a definition:
What exactly is a content creator anyway?
A LinkedIn connection, Rachel Simon, posed this question on her poll last week, which inspired this article.
My definition of a content creator is:
"Someone who posts their own original content several times a week for the benefit of their target audience."
Great content creators have these 4 things in common
1.?????Great content creators POST CONTENT…
If you’re planning on being a content creator on LinkedIn, you need to post content.
It’s kind of obvious isn’t it, given the name, but you can’t be part of the 80% of users on LinkedIn who are “lurkers” (lots of scrolling, no liking or posting).
You need to throw your hat in the ring and get in the content creation game.
2.?????Great content creators post ORIGINAL content…
It’s not enough to just share other people’s content or recycle popular content that’s floating around on the internet, a good content creator creates good original content for their audience.

3.?????Great content creators post original content SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK…
I don’t buy into the post now and again but make it a “grenade” post school of thought.

Unless you’re Richard Branson or some mega influencer, if you want to stay visible on LinkedIn, you have to post regularly.
3-5 days a week is ideal.
Pick a schedule within this that you can realistically commit to and maintain if you want to be in this for the long run.
4.?????Great content creators post original content several times a week FOR THE BENEFIT OF THEIR TARGET AUDIENCE…
This last point is important because this is the difference between using LinkedIn to build an audience and using it to build a business.
If you want to be a content creator, you can achieve that by creating good, original content regularly.
If you want to be a content creator that generates income for your business through LinkedIn, you need to make sure that your content is for the benefit of your target audience.
To do this effectively, you need to have laser-sharp clarity on who that audience is and speak to them - and only them - in your content.
Lastly, not all great content creators have a huge following – you can be a content creator with 2,000 followers or 20,000.
However, a great content creator eventually builds a good-sized audience because great content attracts followers.
