4 Steps To Plan Out Your 12 Month Content Strategy (So You Can Hit Your Business Goals & Objectives Without Stress & Overwhelm)

Having a clear, simple & effective content strategy is your gateway to more customers & sales.

So, I started with the punchline. But let me explain how.

I'm sure you hear a lot about the power of content marketing, and for good reasons. Your content is your GOLD, your KING, your simple, easy and fun way to generate more inbound leads to your business (and I'm sure you wouldn't say no to more inquiries from HOT leads asking how to work with you #amiright?)

Too many startups focus on the need to master their sales strategy: cold outreach, sales calls, extensive networking to the point of exhaustion. But let me ask you this: have you ever considered that there is an easier way to grow your customer base and make money in your business?

Your content is your front of house 'window' for your business. It's what makes your audience decide whether to follow you, to engage with you, and whether to ultimately invest into your services. Your content is your opportunity to develop emotional connections with your audience, to build trust with them, to tell stories & to convey the value of your products in a clear & attractive manner. Master your content & you attract customers to your business, rather than having to chase them & convince them why they need your services (and let's be honest, you NEVER need to convince anyone why they need to work with you because you know your services are BADASS).

You need to think of your content strategy as a dating profile. Let's do a Tinder comparison because it's likely to be relatable AF. Let's pretend for a moment that you're fresh on the singles market & you're ready to get back out there into the dating world. So you head to Tinder to set up a profile.

Of course, you want to attract & date the best-looking, funniest people (because I'm guessing you're a good-looking, funny person too ;))

As such, you have to put effort into your profile to make it stand out to the people you're trying to attract. You would never leave your profile blank, or write something like 'only showers 3 times a week', because let's be honest here, you wouldn't get any interest. If you did, I'd be concerned.

Instead you'd make sure to upload your best photos. You'd write a bio that would share your interests & show your personality. This is common sense, right? Because you want to attract a certain type of person. You don't want to have to convince people why they should date you (which is what you'd have to do if you had minimum information on your profile).

The same goes for your content marketing strategy. You have to showcase the best of your business. You have to position your products & services as sexy to your audience. You have to hook your readers with your content so that they always come back to consume it. Your content is what will attract your ideal clients to your business, generate leads on autopilot and increase your sales & profits in a fun & easy way. Sounds good? Sound like something you want? I think we both know the answer ;)

Basically, creating a unique & standout content strategy is the easy way to make money in your business (and my guess is you want it to be as easy as possible?).

So here are my 4 steps to help you plan out a content strategy that converts your audience into paying customers, like, yesterday:

1) Decide on your company objectives & goals for the year

A content strategy can only be created ONCE you know what you’re working towards. Take the time to decide exactly what success in your business looks like one year from now. What revenue target have you hit? How many clients or customers are you serving? Once you've got this figure, you can reverse-engineer a plan to ensure you hit those goals.

2) Map out what new services & products you will launch

In order to hit your business goals (both tangible & intangible), you need a clear plan of action with HOW you will bring that revenue in. A good way to increase your sales AND impact your customers at the same time is to launch new products. This allows you to retain current customers and upsell new services to them, increasing their long-term value. But it also allows you to serve & impact more of your audience by providing customised solutions that THEY need.

3) Get clarity on the nitty gritty of your plan

The above 2 steps will help you map out a broad plan, but once you have clarity on this, you need to map out the more granular details to actually bring your plan to life. You’ll need to consider what communications channels you have available,?where your ideal clients are hanging out, how much budget you have to invest into paid marketing, when you'll launch your different products, how much time you need to allow for each launch to warm up your audience & ensure they buy from you. A lot of planning goes into a 12 month content strategy, but when you know what you're working towards, the process is a lot smoother.
