4 Steps to Maximize Your Annual Reviews

4 Steps to Maximize Your Annual Reviews

As the end of the year starts creeping up on us, it’s going to be time for annual reviews here soon.

?

This time of year is great to look back on what went well and what didn’t, what you’d like to see in the future, and what you need to do to progress.

?

Hopefully, this isn’t the first time you’re sitting down one-on-one with the people on your team this year, but even if it is, I want to share with you the 4 P’s to get the most out of these review sessions.

?

Prepare

Don’t go into these conversations without a plan. Take some time to consider the performance of the individual, and how you can best motivate them to grow in the coming year.

?

Praise

Be intentional about recognizing people for things they can control. Praise their attitude, effort, values alignment, and anything else you wish to continue seeing from them.

?

Plans

Create clarity about the upcoming year. Share your plans for the team and how they will contribute to the overall mission.

?

Personal Growth

The overarching responsibility of leadership is to bring out the best in others. So, every one-on-one session should be used as an opportunity to help others become their best self. Ask them how you can help them become a better employee, but even more importantly a better person in the coming year.

?

Don’t waste the opportunity you have with annual reviews.

?

Learn, coach up, and inspire your people going into 2025!

Great post. I really like how you stated that the annual review should not have any surprises. It should basically be a summation based on the 1:1 encounters over the last 12 months. I also like the planning for the future aspect coming out of the review session. It should be an opportunity for reflection and planning for future growth.
