4 Steps To Make Your Workplace More Inclusive For Disabled.

4 Steps To Make Your Workplace More Inclusive For Disabled.

Pride month is over and the rainbow logos are taken down. Funnily enough, maybe the ally ship is gone too.

The onus of inclusion lies with those who are included, not with the ones who are excluded. If you are a social entrepreneur who solves problems not just for your customers but for your employees and society at large, then this article can broaden your horizons.

This Disability Pride month, let's explore how you can make your workplace inclusive and your ally ship last.

Here are 4 steps to take to be inclusive of disabled people.

Support from the top

Individual efforts won't mean a lot without the express support from the top executive level. Without their seal of approval, making any accommodation for disabled people will feel like pulling teeth. So, wield your power beneficially and support your employees.

Reinforce your recruitment

Remove application and other barriers that are obstructing disabled people from applying. Do they need voice interview tests over written ones? Do they need something else? Make those changes. Train your recruiters to be sensitive and look for talent in disabled people.

Accommodate and make adjustments

This can be done by integrating accessible bathrooms, a ramp entry, or others in the physical workspace. This can also be done by changing the way the work is done so the disabled can access and complete the workload. Maybe by using accessibility software, changing the work schedule, modifying the way the task is executed, etc. Stay committed to seeing these changes through.

Cultural training for the workplace

Undergo training from disability awareness groups and trainers. Equip your employees with knowledge on how they can be better allies and human beings. Make your work culture accessible and welcoming.
