4 Steps To Discover The Right Career Path.

Do you have clarity about your career path? Did you choose your career or did it happen to you accidentally? Are you satisfied with your current role? Do you ever stop questioning yourself if this is the right path?...

I have always asked these questions to myself in the past? 5-10 years. Back in my school days, I had opted for commerce to pursue CA(Chartered Accountancy) eventually. I was aware that CA was one of the best career choices in commerce(Thanks to my relatives, teachers, and parents??). I pursued it for three? years and? subsequently gave up

However, I am not the only one, 93% of the students are aware of just 7 career choices in the age group of 14 to 21 as per a recent survey.

After a few years, I found a corporate job through college placements. I did not choose the job, rather it happened to me. I continued to ask myself if I was on the right career path. - -... I always wished to switch my career but knew very little about what to do and how to transition.?

But the question is, how do you really know which career is right for you??

1. AWARENESS: List down all career options/Jobs/professions that exist in the current scenario

How many professions do you think exist in the world? How many do you know? How many are unknown and you could be a good fit for? Make a list of all career options by researching through career journals/blogs/vlogs or any reliable research reports.

2. SUITABILITY: Shortlist the career choices suitable to your personality

Have you ever attempted a personality test? Maybe at school/college or during any job interview? It may not seem interesting but a reliant tool can actually help you know your strengths, traits, and suitable career choices. Filter the career choices which you feel would be a good fit as per your self-assessment.

3. LIKELINESS: Shortlist the careers choices based on likeness/interest

Filter those jobs which you like out of interest, aspiration, or curiosity. It can even be your childhood dream or based on your idol or influencer. Just shortlist the ones that encourage you -and never make you feel tired while executing, talking, or collecting information.

4. RELEVANCE: Research the scope & growth of the shortlisted career options

This is the last and the most crucial step to finding the right career path. Do read and interact with relevant people to know the growth and scope of the shortlisted career options in the next decade or two. Read industry reports, look at YOY growth, and look at the base/average salary being offered for the role, demand & supply of workforce, etc.

While it is difficult to take strong action when it comes to switching careers, it is imperative that one stops and takes a pause to decide the way forward. An average professional works for more than ninety thousand hours in a lifetime hence it is important to find the most fulfilling job to be able to enjoy that journey.
