Career Strategies for Standout Executives that Deliver Value & Growth | Ace Interviews | Network with Decision-Makers & Communicate Value that Gets Offers
Everyone Wants to Succeed at Interviews. ?
You Can Be the One that Gets the Offer.
The way to increase your chances is to be a good storyteller so the hiring manager and/or recruiter get a clear picture of your value and impact you've contributed in your career and your strategic communication skills.
When you tell stories in networking and interviews, it's important to have structure and clarity in your communication skills (and expected from those in leadership positions).
The STAR Method described below provides Structure to communicate clarity, relevance and impact.
Why the STAR Method is Critical for Getting Offers
Let me introduce you to the STAR Method – a powerful interview system that structures your strategic responses to behavioral interview questions.
What is the STAR Method? ?
The STAR method stands for: -Situation: Set the scene and give the necessary details of your example. -Task: Explain what your responsibility was in that situation. -Action: Describe exactly what steps you took to address it. -Result: Share the outcomes or results of your actions.
Here's the breakdown on how to apply it: ?
Situation: -Start by describing a specific event or situation. Be concise but provide enough context to make your story understandable. -Example: "In my previous role, our team faced a significant drop in customer satisfaction scores." ?
Task:? -Explain your specific role and responsibilities in that situation. -Example: "As the team lead, it was my responsibility to identify the root causes and implement a strategy to improve our ratings." ?
Action:? -Detail the actions you took to address the challenge. Focus on what you did personally, even if you were part of a team. -Example: "I conducted customer surveys, analyzed feedback, and implemented a new customer service training program." ?
Result:? -Conclude with the results of your actions. Quantify your success when possible---your value proposition. -Example: "As a result, our customer satisfaction scores increased by 30% over the next quarter." ?
This is Why the STAR METHOD Works...
-Clarity: It provides a clear and concise framework for your answers. -Relevance: Helps you stay focused on what the interviewer wants to know. -Impact: Demonstrates your contributions and the results of your actions effectively.
