4-Step Process to Help With the Anxiety (of a crappy day)

4-Step Process to Help With the Anxiety (of a crappy day)

There are moments when we overthink what we're feeling. We've all experienced it at some point. We're feeling slightly off, so we begin to get anxious about it, and the ball keeps rolling until we're one huge pile of anxiety. But we're just human and I want to help you self-diagnose the next time you're feeling slightly off by using the acronym HALT. If it's not one of these, please DO look into it further.?

Hungry

When you're running on empty, you probably experience low blood sugar. When you have low blood sugar, your energy is pretty much depleted.

My general routine will be to first eat at about 2 pm. This works for my body and feels good. Some days I don't eat until 5 pm because I don't need the fuel and I feel amazing. On other days I'm feeling a massive dip by 1 pm and need to eat. Check your hunger levels. Does your body need fuel??

On the other hand, you may be eating the wrong foods. Digestion is the most energy-consuming thing that your body does, so eating heavy, greasy food will have a negative effect on your body and make you feel sluggish.?

Angry

Have you got unresolved anger towards something or someone? If you've been carrying around anger, you're probably feeling drained. Negative emotions suck energy. It's time to let it go. Whether you need to forgive someone, or take up a hobby as a release, do it now.?

Lonely

Are you feeling lonely? Are the people in your life good for you??

Some people are like batteries that keep you charged and leave you feeling energized while others are like vacuums that suck the energy from you and leave you feeling drained.?

It's time to get around the right people, people that can shift your internal energy.

Sleep

Are you sleeping enough? 97% of people need at least 7 hours of sleep to function optimally. Lack of sleep will affect ALL areas of your life. Start taking it seriously and give your body the time to recoup that it deserves.?

These four things may seem obvious, but how much importance are you placing on them? In a society that favors medication over discovering the root issues, we're extremely susceptible to lacking one or more of these very basic human needs.?

Start to become aware of how you're leading your life before you turn to external help. HALT is an extra tool to throw in your toolbox and when you're experiencing a crappy day, make sure you're checking all these boxes first.?

I find that i'm generally anxious when 1) something is out of my control, in which case i mentally prepare for all scenarios I can think of and that brings a sense of control and 2) intimidation around a new task, in this case the best thing to do is make the first step, and even ask for help if needed. After that the task or project isnt as daunting.
