4 Step Comparison Approach & Why You Should Not Adopt It

At times, we criticise ourselves too much. 

We compare our success with our peers' success. 

Inspired from JBP's Book 12 Rules of Life, here's how your internal critic uses the "4 Step Comparison Approach" to put you down which lowers your motivation to do anything in life & what can you do about it.


1. First, "your internal critic" will choose a random domain of comparison (in most cases, it's money, fame, power, network) (Eg. power)

2. Then, "your internal critic" will negate all the other parameters & will convince you that the "selected domain" is the only relevant way to succeed in life.

(Eg: if you're not powerful, you're a LOSER)

3. Then, it will put the Best People of the selected domain in the centre & it will put you in the corner.

The comparison gets stronger at each step & your conviction that "you're no good" gets the better of you. (Eg: I know I can never be as powerful as Putin, why even try)

4. Then, finally it will go even further to compare the incomparable.

It will consider the unbridgeable gap of success between you & the Star of that domain as the primary basis of existence.

It's like it's screaming in your face that " you're no where near Putin in terms of power, you can't be like him, you know it. Why even try when you know you can never reach there.


Adopting such an approach is a sure-shot way of preparing yourself for the DOOMSDAY. You will never be motivated to improve yourself in life.

You will never push your boundaries & you will declare yourself a failure without even trying.


What's the solution?

1. Don't adopt this APPROACH (Obviously? Well, not so obvious)
