Spring is now in full swing. With the change in seasons comes the urge for many to spring clean. This annual tradition involves deep cleaning your home or place of work. Although this practice may seem overwhelming there are many benefits to be gained, such as a sense of increased productivity and stress reduction. Deep cleaning may also benefit your immune system and prevent health issues that can be caused by dust, mould and debris. Before you embark on this task we wanted to share with you four key tips and tricks from our team of professional cleaners to help make the process as stress free as possible.?
Start with a thorough declutter?
Studies have shown that living in a cluttered environment can increase stress. Clutter refers to items in your home or workspace that have accumulated over time that you rarely use. There are many reasons why people have clutter, oftentimes it can be a result of feeling too overwhelmed to organise it or many find sentiment in their belongings and as a result are reluctant to let them go. However, there are many benefits to decluttering. Having a decluttered environment helps to reduce cortisol and boost your self esteem. It may also improve concentration and productivity, which is particularly beneficial when decluttering your workspace. To start the decluttering process we recommend dedicating specific blocks of time to the task and working methodically one room at a time to prevent overwhelm. When decluttering assess every item you come into contact with and edit them into three piles, keep, sell and donate. Rather than throwing away anything you no longer want, instead consider more sustainable alternative disposal methods such as recycling, donating to charity, rehoming to friends or family or reselling.?
Dust First?
Dusting helps to create a healthier environment as it can get rid of allergens such as fur, pollen and dust mites. While we recommend dusting your space on a weekly basis, during your spring clean you may wish to undertake a more thorough dusting regime where you concentrate on all surfaces including walls and those hard to reach areas that can often be overlooked. We recommend using a microfiber duster as they are light and gentle which prevents scratches on delicate surfaces. When dusting furniture be sure to remove all items before starting and start from the top of the room and work your way down as dust will fall downwards. If possible, wait at least an hour after dusting until you vacuum, this allows all dust particles in the air to settle on the floor.?

Clean your appliances
Appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers and air conditioner units are some of the most used in our homes and offices. While it is good practice to clean these on a regular basis they shouldn’t be overlooked during your deeper spring clean. Ensuring your refrigerator is clean and hygienic helps to prevent the breeding of germs which can lead to diseases such as food poisioning. Start by removing all food and assessing all sell by dates to ensure everything is healthy and in date. Then remove all shelves and drawers and thoroughly scrub them with washing up liquid and hot water. With all the shelves and drawers removed, clean thoroughly in the fridge being sure to get into all the grooves and crevices. We don’t recommend using a strong kitchen cleaner as the chemicals may contaminate food. To deep clean your dishwasher we recommend filling a small dishwasher-safe bowl with one cup of white vinegar and placing it in the bottom of your empty dishwasher then run the dishwasher on the hottest setting available. Don’t forget to clean the dishwasher filter which can be done with a soft brush.?
Deep clean your carpets?
Carpets can become breeding grounds for dust mites and pollutants, therefore we recommend a twice weekly vacuuming regime in addition to a deep clean once or twice a year, depending on the amount of traffic in the room. Deep cleaning carpets helps to remove stains and trapped dirt which in turn can increase their longevity. Start the process by removing all furniture from the room and then get to work vacuuming the entire surface of the carpet. Before shampooing your carpets you may wish to apply a pre-treatment which can help to loosen dirt and stains. There are many different carpet shampoos on the market, we recommend that you research to find a perfect match to help tackle your specific issues. For example, you may wish to use a shampoo that combats pet stains and odours or one that neutralises powerful odours.?
