Team meetings can be a hopeless waste of time!
You've probably been involved in a few pointless meetings. Perhaps you've even run one or two yourself.
So why bother with team meetings?
One reason is that good meetings can help us enjoy work more. They help our team feel part of something bigger than themselves.
But the main reason for accountants is to get things done! To keep on top of your workflow and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Effective meetings don't 'just happen'. They must be planned and prepared for if we are to avoid an hour of directionless waffle.
Here are 4 simple things you can do to improve your team meetings:
- Decide on the purpose of the meeting (in advance). This is when you consider why you are meeting and what outcome you want. It may seem blindingly obvious, but it means your team members know why they are there.
- Once you have the purpose sorted out, create an Agenda. This gives you a structure for the meeting and helps you decide who should be there.
- Once the meeting is underway, use the Agenda to stay on track and on time.
- Be sure to allocate tasks among your team and hold them accountable to take action
These steps will help you hold more effective and productive meetings. Get serious about how you use your time and give them a go!
