4 SIDES of a COIN : Beyond the two sides.

Real Event : Recently occurred, with me present as on of the audience.

I went for a meeting with an Production Environment, as I entered the venue just post lunch hours, I could see a few women employees talking of one of their owned mobile (Lower end) being lost/ Stolen. Calls were made to the number that held the mobile and the person on the other side, sounded rude and abusive , in the process of defending that the mobile was his.

The discussion then went on the find a suspect and the usual trend was to look at someone not present after the event as the prime one An employee who had just recently joined the unit had not returned from lunch and also had taken advance from his boss, added more authenticity of him being a prime suspect for the event.

It was expected that the employee will not return, but he did and was to start to work, when the women who lost her mobile directly accused the guy of stealing, interestingly he came back strongly and asked the female to take the oath on the God to confirm that he had taken the mobile , but contrary to the expectations, this time the women took a few steps back and avoided doing the same, he then added that he needed this job badly and why would steal a mobile, not in any in this condition and if he would have , then he would not have returned on the job.

What happened next was worth noting, the guy came next morning, gave the female the money to buy a new mobile and resigned , as for him self respect was more important then money.

In the whole process of this event, the complete ecosystem there was infact at the first instance aiming at this guy as the prime suspect, but as per proceedings that occurred the discussion got balanced towards practical questions being asked of whether the female employee had forgot or her mobile got stolen , while she was out etc and why would the guy steal a low end mobile, when other expensive mobile were lying around unattended, etc etc.

FOR ME from this event that I analysed and understood that infact there are also 4 sides of the coin:

1. One side of the coin : that is made visible or promoted in various forms, emotions and intensities, but if focussed on the particular person , event or process.
2. Other side of the coin : reversibly questions the present narrative.
3. Top side of coin : that is the macro view of perspective , where we are required to think and research more and ask more open questions but with more analytical approach.
4. Base the coin: The Hidden Secrets, that we may or we may not be able to decipher.

It becoming our general behavior, in forming conclusions or reactions of people, products, process and events , based on

ONLY WHAT HAS SIDE THAT HAS BEEN CHOSEN TO BE SHOWN TO US.

We exercise our laziness in great measures in avoiding effort to at least review the other side of the same.

Next time , when you are forced internally to draw a quick conclusion,

give it time and ask questions by being a Devil advocate, you may leave yourself surprised for what you may unearth in the process and grow immensely in Bargain.
