The 4 R's To Beat Overwhelm

People feel overwhelmed as their mental, emotional, & physical resources are overcome. It sneaks up on you – one day you’re fine; the next you feel incapable of running your business & your life.

Use the 4 R’s to beat overwhelm:

a)?Recognise:

Identify when & where you feel overwhelmed. If you know your triggers the easier you will be able to avoid or reduce it.

b)?Re-set.

Cut down on alcohol, sweets, & empty calories. Go for a daily walk. Swim. Tai Chi. Lift Weights. Do the 7Minutes app to get 7 minutes of exercise. Meditate – it doesn’t have to be weird. Find an app & style that works for you. Sit somewhere quiet. Focus on slow deep breaths. Aim for 10 breaths. Work up to 30. Just being conscious of our breath reduces stress.

c)?Remove.

Use a pad & pen to brain-dump all the stuff running in your head onto paper. Start with the biggest worries (deadlines, reports, etc) but don’t stop until you’ve got it all out. Writing things down relieves the pressure from our subconscious. (a pad & pen next to your bed is a lifesaver!)Use a tool like my ‘To Don’t’ list to assess what items you have to do, which you can delegate, & which you can reject. (PM me & I’ll send you a free copy)Turn what remains into a ranked To-Do list & start on just the top 2 things. Then the next 2…

d)** Rest.**

Schedule some ‘Me’ time. Leave work early. Organise a mini-break with a loved one. Have long a weekend. Try to get more sleep. Use a blue light filter. Keep the bedroom for sleep, reading & sex. Banish the damn TV.
