4 Reasons You’re Not Losing Weight

4 Reasons You’re Not Losing Weight

From my 25+ years experience in the health, fitness and weight loss industry, these are the 4 most common reasons why busy professional Men are not losing their excess weight.

?

1. No Proven Plan

To achieve your health and weight loss goals, you need some form of structure and a plan to follow, particularly one that will work for the individual’s lifestyle. Factors such as available time, travel frequency, Family situation and the level of social activity, all need to be taken into consideration, otherwise adherence will fall and so too will the results.?

For instance, some people have tried the keto diet. That requires you not to have any carbs. Some people crave carbs, some people love carbs and some people can't do without carbs for the long term. It also means no alcohol. So is that suitable for you?

Some people have tried intermittent fasting. Does it work??

Yes, it can work but can you keep staying away from food for long periods forever??

So you need to follow a plan that works for you and it has to be proven to work with others that have a similar lifestyle as you.

The plan should also not consist of the latest fad diet. Don't look for that quick fix or for that short-term result, because you won’t be able to sustain it and you’ll put the weight back on and then get frustrated. It will be a setback and may discourage you to continue trying something different and from moving forward.

The plan is something that should be simple and clear, telling you exactly what to do step-by-step. Ideally it should first focus on diet and healthy habits over exercise, as if they are not optimised, there’s a high chance you won’t lose weight with the exercise, plus it can get overwhelming when you lead a busy life.

2. Inconsistency

The other thing is consistency. If you have a good plan, but you're not consistently following it, what's the point??

You have to consistently apply the principles of the plan in order to get consistent results. Ideally it should eventually become ingrained as second nature to you so there’s less time and thought put into it and the consistently improves.

3. No Support

You can have the best plan to follow, but if you don't have the right person or the right people supporting you and guiding you along your journey, where you will have struggles and challenges along the way, then the chances of you sticking to it reduces significantly.?

Just like if you were walking up a mountain. There’s bound to be times you’ll be challenged and wanting to give up, but if you’re doing it with someone else that's done it before and is a professional at it, there’s a much higher chance of success.

Not having the support of your partner also makes things difficult, because they could be the ones cooking the meals or buying the food from the supermarket. If they are not aligned with your healthy choices and cooking and stocking the pantry with the wrong foods, it’s going to make things tough!

?

4. No accountability.?

This one is huge, particularly for busy professionals. If don't have someone that's keeping tabs on you and someone to report to, you can too easily get away with doing nothing, which means staying stuck in your current situation. Let's say you've decided to lose weight but you don't tell anyone and you don't get someone to keep you accountable. How easy is it for you to just say, “I'm just going to eat or drink this even though I know I shouldn’t”, “I'm not going to worry about it this week”, “I'll do it next summer” or “I'll start next year”.

If you've got someone there holding you accountable, you're more inclined to do it. Having someone that has your best interest in mind and that you don't want to disappoint, can make all the difference.

When I started getting into shape, I needed a plan, support and accountability from someone that had successfully done it before. That enabled me to achieve my goals surely and more rapidly compared to trying to work it out on my own.

Now I'm trying to teach other busy Dads how to do it, because I believe when we've been blessed with something, we need to bless and help others with it. That's my mission to you Dads.

Remember to look after yourself, so you can look after your Family.
