4 reasons you might not be growing on LinkedIn

If you ask me, I think LinkedIn is one of the easiest platforms to build your brand and thrive. You can grow fast on LinkedIn, unlike other platforms. I joined LinkedIn with no idea of how to navigate the platform. I joined when I was depressed and needed to commit and put my time into something productive. This decision?has been one of the best decisions of my life. I am not where I want to be in terms of gigs and opportunities but I am grateful for what I have gotten through LinkedIn.

Just like many of you, I joined LinkedIn with the sole purpose of getting a job and supporting myself financially. This mindset is not wrong but it is flawed. It took a while before I got a gig and it might take you longer than it took me or yours may be shorter. You will definitely get discouraged and end up leaving the platform if this is the mindset with which you joined LinkedIn. The job will come but that would be after you have shown what you are good at through your content.?

A lot of us want to grow and thrive on LinkedIn without following what is required of us. We want to create a single post and watch it go viral for the whole world to see. Well, that happens a lot of times and it also does not happen to everyone. The majority of those doing well on LinkedIn today started just like you; no huge followers or big gigs and roles. They all started small but the only thing that makes them unique is that they did not give up.?

No good success happens over time. It takes the commitment to build and not give up; the same rule applies to LinkedIn. If you are new to LinkedIn and desire growth then you need to implement these four things or more that are not mentioned here.

  1. Ask questions

I joined LinkedIn at a time when I was hungry for growth. That desire taught me to ask questions. I would enter the inbox of people and ask them questions. Some snubbed me while some answered me; I did not focus on those who chose not to answer but I was more focused on those who were welcoming. Asking the right questions helped me grow on LinkedIn. I did not enter people's inboxes with hi or hello and leave it there. I sent and still send proper messages.?

?Learn to ask the right questions from the right people if you want to grow on LinkedIn or succeed at anything in life. Those who ask the right questions do not miss their paths in life. Learn to ask questions on this platform but prepare your mind for snubbing and people ignoring you. The truth is, no one owes you anything. Be thankful to those who answer you and move on from those who do not. You will not feel so bad if your mind is prepared for snubbing and no replies. Be strategic about the questions you ask and who you ask. Ask questions from industry leaders and whoever you pick interest in; the least that can happen is getting ignored. Tailor your questions well and you are good to go.

2. Inability to support others

No one grows or succeeds by being on their own. We all need to relate and connect with others to grow. Growth on LinkedIn is about connection and not just connection but strategic connection. Support the post and work of others. Celebrate other people's achievements and be truly happy for them. The energy you put into celebrating others will come to you. Supporting others does not take anything from you nor does it reduce you. The support you give will be returned to you.

You might not grow at the pace you want without adequate support for the content of other creators. One of the ways to support others is through constructive and meaningful comments. Avoid being the thanks for sharing, thanks for posting kind of people. Use your head and pen down meaningful words that people can read and want to connect with you. Let there be a sense in your comments.

3. Comparison

Your growth will be slow if all you do is compare yourself to other people and feel bad or depressed. You are running your own race and so are those you are comparing yourself with. It is possible they started way before you and even if you started together, there is no need to feel bad because they are doing better than you are. Never compare yourself with anyone on social media and in the real world too. Let the comparison be a healthy one if you must compare. Let the comparison push you to do better and not make you give up.

4. Jack of all contents

I can relate to this because I used to do it. Back then, I did not have a particular thing I create content on; everything and anything goes. If I see that someone posted something and had a huge engagement, I would go ahead and post something similar. That was really draining. I had to find what I loved and I began creating content on it and it has been fun so far. Try not to post anything and everything. What do you want to be known for? Pick something and go hard on it. Do it until you have established yourself as an authority in that field. Keep at it even if the engagement is low. It is not about the engagement rather it is about the impact you make. People might not come out to tell you but your consistency will pay off. Try not to be a jack of all content and a master of none. Try not to follow the crowd.

People love authenticity; show the world your uniqueness. See you at the top.
