Team building is mostly about games and theory in and out of office. Instead of making it an opportunity to do something as a single unit for the greater good, participants would just try to do everything on their own while some participants do nothing and just wait until it’s over.
The sad reality is that a far too many people despise team building events or just don’t like it. They do not see what results team building can bring and only think of a simple mindset:
“It’s wasting my time and I don’t care what happens to the other teams.”
Here are 4 reasons Team Buildings fail:
Mindset Change
For sales, it is a very competitive and strict working environment. 1 misstep and the whole sale could be lost thus the pressure of time. Many sales people understand the meaning of teamwork and what it means for the good of the company but just AS MANY find no meaning in teamwork and only thinks of themselves.
A team building session must always encompass the qualities of shared vision, mutual benefits for all and the easement of collaborative work. If a team building only plays with games and puzzles but no moral values, then the session itself failed and it would truly waste people’s time (and money).
Motivational Downfall
Sales Ninja always trains to boost motivation above all else. While team work is important, you must be motivated enough to keep going, not just for yourself but for the team. When conducting a team building session, include activities and will rile up the spirit and drive the passion of each individual.
The reason many are not motivated throughout team building sessions is because there is no reason. Meaning that participants found no reason, no meaning and no value in doing the session at all since all they do is solve puzzles and work together to win 1st in a simple game.
Lacking “The Why”
“The Why” is reason many team building sessions fail. It is almost the sole purpose why people are disinterested in team buildings because typical sessions are without purpose and incentive thus the demotivation.
Phrases like “teamwork”, “unity”, “common goals” and “friendship” are often tossed around lightly like a football but in an average team building, such values are not emphasized or believed in.
Internal Dispute
The single most venomous factor: interdepartmental grievances. When one department is dissatisfied with a reply from another, there will definitely be a war of words or trash talk behind each other. No matter how well your team building session is done, this factor will be near impossible to break.
Team building isn’t just an activity for different teams to bond over. It is simply an approach to get many people together and work for a common goal and the benefits that everyone can enjoy.
Sales Ninja Unity
