# 4 Reasons why we are not using IPV6?

  • Lack of 'Backward Compatibility' with IPV4

IPV6 protocol is not friendly with the IPV4 protocol. Therefore, people switching to IPV6 will not have access to web pages configured for IPV4 protocol. Of course, no one wants this.

  • Lack of workaround solutions for the compatibility issue

The only susceptible workaround solution for the general public is to use hardware that supports 'Dual stacking'. However, market availability of dual stacked hardware is demotivating. Also, this is an expensive solution for the public.

  • Cost involved in upgrading all IPV4 devices to IPV6

Billions of outdated network devices are still connected to the Internet. Upgrading all of them as per IPV6 standard demands a huge investment, with which not everyone is comfortable. In addition, Industries do not see an immediate profit in investing over IPV6, as transitioning to IPV6 has been just 6% since June 6, 2012 (the day IPV6 was launched).

  • 'NAT technology' a dressing for the outdated IPV4

Network Address Translation technology that is built-in in the common household routers, is allowing usage of 'private IP addresses' at no extra cost. Use of the private IP addresses has virtually killed the need for unique (but limited) public IP addresses, allowing industries to survive a couple more decades on the outdated IPV4 technology.
