4 Reasons We Love Agency Life

Agency life may not be a glamorous as it appeared in shows like Mad Men, but regardless of the challenges we face in our work, there are a lot of wonderful reasons to work in marketing. We wanted to share a few of the reasons we’re still not tired of this industry after decades of work and thousands of projects.

Reason 1: You’ll never get bored.

On Monday you might spend your day strategizing a campaign for a healthcare technology company. Tuesday you might plan content for an insect startup, and Wednesday you might produce a TV spot for a furniture retailer. More likely, you’re doing all of these things multiple times a day. Working on several accounts keeps your mind interested and engaged, and it also means there’s always an opportunity to learn something new.

Reason 2: It’s the best of both worlds.

Marketing is both an art and a science, and it requires the strategic and creative parts of your brain to work together at all times. Solving a problem for a brand often feels like solving a puzzle—a puzzle that’s constantly moving and gaining new pieces. It’s a great feeling at the end of a project when all of the pieces come together to form something smart for a brand.

Reason 3: You’re in good company.

The kind of creative and strategic work we do, combined with the pressure of deadlines, requires us to get along. Collaboration is an integral part of our jobs, and where there’s creativity flowing there’s also a lot of laughter. Working in marketing or advertising promises that you’ll never be short on inspiration or interesting people to talk to. If you work at a smaller agency, it also means there are opportunities to get personal mentorship from your colleagues.

Reason 4: Your skills stay sharp.

Advertising and marketing are fast-paced environments with no room for complacency. It’s common to feel like you’ve been thrown into the deep end or like you have to wear a lot of different hats. The upside here is that you have endless opportunities for growth—regardless of where you fall in your organization. This quick-on-your-feet thinking keeps your skills sharp and well-rounded.

Whether we’re juggling multiple clients and projects in a day, trying to fit the brand puzzle pieces together, bouncing ideas off each other or learning the latest digital marketing trend, we’ve found a lot to love about working in this industry. If you’re someone who works in advertising or marketing, or if you’re someone who has hired or worked with an agency, we’d love to know—what do you enjoy about the work we do?
