A heart for God
Having a heart for God is the beginning of all ministry work, whether you are teaching Sunday school or leading the entire church. Sunday school ministry should also flow from here. You should fully commit your heart to God. You need to be sure of your salvation.
Be committed to the Bible as the inspired word of God. Also, make sure you’re in the right standing with God. When your heart is given to God, He comes and dwells in you. He also makes you a river of living waters.
You will continuously be strengthened and refreshed because you draw from the well that never runs dry. According to deep spirituality, having a heart for God as a Sunday school teacher makes you teachable; therefore, you become a better teacher.
Ability to teach
An influential Sunday School teacher must be able to engage the students in learning. You must be able to break down bible lessons to levels children will understand.?
You need to articulate and teach the truth as presented in the Bible. Remember you are laying a foundation, and if it’s wrong, then the Christian walk of the children will be based on wrong doctrines and principles.

As a Sunday school teacher, you must be willing to advance in your craft. You must aspire to know more of God’s word and be updated on the current trends and things that affect the children in their generation and how to tackle them. A Sunday school teacher ought to be fully equipped in all good works, as presented in the book of 2 Timothy 3:17.
Creativity
You are created in the image of your creative God. Therefore He gives you the ability to come up with different creative ideas. Creativity makes children eager to learn because they look forward to a new thing every time there is a class.
Creativity involves using visual aids, songs, outdoor activities, and dances. Creativity can be challenging and tiresome; therefore, you must be intentional about the whole idea. Spend time with creative people and challenge each other to develop creative projects.?
ISTE.org says, “Teachers who always give classwork involving creativity are likely to develop high cognitive skills, problem-solving, critical thinking, and connecting subjects with their students. And when teachers combine creativity with transformative technology, they see even better results.”
Patience
Patience is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, as shown in the book of Galatians 5:22-23. Patience helps you tolerate delay, annoyance, and frustration without losing your temper or getting agitated.?
Children can be a handful, coming from different backgrounds and upbringings. The teacher’s duty is to identify these characters in the children and patiently help them. It’s a quality that entails resilience, calmness, and forbearance amidst difficulties.
One of the teachers’ duties is to inspire hope and ignite the minds of these young students. It is the responsibility of the Sunday school teachers to ensure that each student is considered an individual mind to be molded and made into an ideal human being. So patience is one of the qualities that can nurture young students’ minds.
Conclusion
Every great work has its reward and fulfillment. However, being a Sunday school teacher is a job not for the faint-hearted. The pleasure and joy that comes from seeing growth in faith and standing in the Christian walk of your students cannot be compared to the pain and tears that it brings.
