Do you have time to work on your business? Do you find yourself working during family time after a long day? Do you find yourself not creating the revenue you had hoped?
I don't profess to be an expert as an entrepreneur but I sure have learned a lot in 15 years. In this week's blog, I'd like to share my perspective on how I conduct business inside my business.
I use a 3 "P"'s perspective:
1. People
2. Process
3. Product
Today, we'll talk about Process. I'll expand on Product next week. Remember, all 3 need to work together or you could miss out on the full potential.
When I began to understand, and implement, the 3 "P"'s, it changed how I looked at my business and how I worked on it.
4 Process Rules:
1. Processes are very important. Without processes you find yourself doing the same tasks over and over again with little to no real measurable results.
2. Create the right process, create more time. When you look at your daily tasks, look at how much time you spend on them. For example, I don't make any prospective calls before 3 pm Tuesday through Friday. I found that most people don't answer their phones prior to 3 because they are busy in appointments etc. After 3 pm they are more than likely winding down their day and tend to answer their phones more. I don't waste my time making calls between 8 am and 3 pm or on Mondays at all. This allows me to work more efficiently with my time throughout the day. Creating the right processes allow me to balance working on my business and working in it.
3. Manage the process, manage your time. When you have the right process in place, you begin to regain control of your time. I don't email out to prospects during the same time frame from Rule #2. I also don't reply to emails during the same time frame unless it's urgent or I have plenty of time in between appointments. I focus more on the tasks throughout the day and follow up beginning at 3 pm. I have so much more free time to use my talents throughout the day, which drives more revenue.
4. Good processes, good balance. If you have the right processes in place, you can regain balance of working on your business instead of always working in it. Working in your business too much, being unbalanced, and struggles with time management seems to be very comon for enrepreneurs. A good process can give you good balance all day long.
Most entrepreneurs run the hamster wheel of working too late, working too much, and because of those habits, can't get as far as they would like. I would suggest you look at 2 things:
1. Do you have time to spend with your family?
2. Do you have time to work on your business?
If you answer "no" to either of those questions, you need to begin creating processes in your business. Start small though. Start with processes that can make slight changes in your time. Start with some simple analytics:
1. When do people answer your phone calls?
2. When do people respond most to your emails?
3. How is your follow-up with inbound prospect calls?
4. Is your sales process duplicatable?
5. Is your role in the company duplicatable?
6. Is ANYTHING in your company duplicatable?
Duplicatable is a big word for process. My vast experience of failures or "learning experiences" tells me that if it's not duplicatable, you don't have a good process in place. Once you do, set sail for the next level in your business.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reply! This is my passion and I feel blessed to share it with you.
Hi Clayton, I use to come to your meetings when I worked with Tim Norris Insurance. I live on west side of Hamilton. Do you have any groups in this area. Also, being a auto/home/life and Medicare agent, any areas where there are no insurance agents? Jack Lewis [email protected]
Your stuff is always good, Clayton R. Hicks

8 年Great use of 3Ps from Marcus Lemonis! Yes I love his show to help entrepreneurs achieving the 4th P - "The Profit". As a process engineer, I may be bias on this topic, but you are right to duplicate the processes that work for us. Because the best way to implement them is consistency in practice.
