4 New Instagram Updates You Have to Know

4 New Instagram Updates You Have to Know

Ever feel like you're missing out on Instagram's latest features?

Hold on, because these new updates could completely change how you use the platform! ????

If you're an Instagram enthusiast or a social media manager,

you'll definitely want to hear about these four exciting updates that Instagram is rolling out.

These changes could significantly impact how you interact with the platform and manage your content.

So let's dive in!

1. Instagram Experiments With Super Likes for Stories

Instagram is always trying to keep things fresh and engaging, and their latest experiment is no exception.

They’re testing a new "Super Like" option for Stories.

Think of it as an upgraded like button, where you press and hold to show extra enthusiasm for a Story.

This is similar to features on YouTube (for live stream comments) and Tinder (for prospective matches).

So, what does this mean for you?

Well, it could be a fun way to let your favorite creators know you really love their content.

As of now, it looks like users can only use this Super Like once per day, which suggests it might not be a paid feature.

It could also help Instagram's algorithm understand which creators you’re extra interested in.

However, this feature could get a bit awkward. Imagine someone using Super Likes to signal interest in a crush—if the feeling isn’t mutual, it could get weird fast.

But overall, it’s a nifty way to boost engagement and make interactions more dynamic.

No official word from Instagram yet, but keep an eye out for this potential new feature!

2. Instagram Expands Notes to Reels and Feed Posts

Instagram is expanding its Notes feature to Reels and feed posts, adding a new layer of interaction.

Previously, Notes were an inbox-only feature where users could leave temporary messages for mutual follows.

Now, you can leave these Post-It style notes directly on Reels and feed posts.

Why is this cool?

For one, it’s a fun way to react to content in real-time.

If your friend posts a hilarious Reel, you can drop a note to share your thoughts.

Notes last for three days and can only be left by mutual follows, keeping the interaction private and personal.

Interestingly, Instagram reported that teen users create notes at 10 times the rate of non-teens, so this feature seems to be a hit with younger users.

If you’re looking to engage a younger audience, utilizing Notes could be a great strategy.

The expansion aims to keep young people engaged, especially since many are drifting towards TikTok and Snap.

Instagram is clearly doubling down on features that promote interaction and keep the platform lively.

3. Instagram Is Restricting the Promotion of Variable Image Size Carousels

Instagram recently introduced a new carousel format that allows users to upload images of different sizes.

This seemed like a great update, but there’s a catch: you can’t boost these carousels if they include full-screen images.

For brands and creators who were excited about this new format, this restriction is a bit of a letdown.

If you include a full-screen image in your carousel, you’ll get an error message saying the post can’t be boosted.

This limitation could affect how you use carousels for promotions, so it’s something to keep in mind when planning your content strategy.

We’ve reached out to Instagram for more details on this restriction and will update you when we hear back.

4. Instagram Tests Making the Messaging Icon the Main Focus

Over time, more and more engagement on Instagram has shifted to DMs.

To lean into this trend, Instagram is testing a new layout that places the messaging icon front and center on the app's main navigation bar.

The post creation button has been moved to the top right corner.

Why is this significant?

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri noted that more photos and videos are shared via DMs than in Stories or the main feed.

By highlighting the messaging feature, Instagram aims to encourage private sharing and engagement, which is how most users are already interacting with the app.

This change could alter how you use Instagram, emphasizing private connections over public posts.

It’s a bold move, but one that aligns with current user behaviors.

Final Thoughts

Instagram’s new updates are all about enhancing user engagement and keeping the platform dynamic. Whether it’s through the potential Super Likes, expanded Notes, new carousel formats, or a DM-focused layout, these changes aim to keep you hooked.

As a user, these updates provide new ways to interact and engage with content. As a creator or brand, understanding and leveraging these features can help you stay ahead of the curve and maintain a strong presence on the platform.

Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t forget to experiment with these new features to see how they can benefit your Instagram strategy!

Something that I have noticed too is that Insta has become super censored, if you post or comment anything regarding politics it will shut your account. I have a feeling Insta is now a declining platform.
