4 Months at Holdson – Deepak Meerakaviyad’s experience as a KTP Associate at Holdson so far.
Our KTP Associate, Dr. Deepak Meerakaviyad , sits in the technical team at Holdson, sharing his time between our R&D centre and The University of Huddersfield under the guidance of Rakesh Mishra .
Joining the team back in March, we sat down with Deepak to look back on his journey at Holdson so far…
During my first few months at Holdson, I have been actively involved in the development and optimisation of the electroform? machines. I have been studying four different configurations of mechanical components in the machine, aiming to optimise the efficiency of electrolyte drainage as well as overall performance.
In addition to this, I have been conducting electrochemical polishing trials on different component samples for customers, assessing the uplift in surface finish and helping to develop in-depth reports on results.
My academic background in CFD and fluid dynamics has helped me understand Holdson’s unique technology better and tackle the challenges in the assembly and development of the machines. I have some experience working on projects in the field of optimisation in fluid dynamics, which helped me carry out the optimisation in a more effective manner to yield high performance.
Although I initially had limited knowledge about electrochemistry, my experience here has significantly deepened my understanding. I have gained valuable insights into electrochemical processes and their applications, which have greatly enhanced my ability to contribute effectively to our projects.

I have been fortunate to work with supportive team members who have provided valuable guidance as I integrated my knowledge and skills into their operations. One aspect of this support was mentorship from senior team members who had a deep understanding of the company's processes, objectives, and technology. They helped me navigate the details of the organisation's culture and workflow, offering insights on how best to apply my expertise to drive results.
Overall, the support and guidance I received from the team at Holdson has been instrumental in my successful integration into their operations. It has not only accelerated my learning curve, but also fostered a collaborative environment where everyone is committed to achieving common goals.
In the coming months, I will conduct more experimental tests and CFD analysis. These efforts will contribute to the optimisation of the electroform? machine, enhancing its performance and efficiency.? I also aim to improve the speed and reduce the power consumption of the electropolishing process.
I have gained a deep understanding of electrochemical polishing processes, which are critical for achieving desired surface finishes and reducing surface roughness on both traditionally and additively manufactured components. I have also studied various configurations and assemblies of components within the electroform? machine. This knowledge has been essential in optimising machine performance and ensuring seamless integration of different parts for improved efficiency and functionality.
Working here has provided me with hands-on experience in electropolishing and deepened my understanding of CFD analysis in the field of electrochemistry, exposing me to research and development practices. My experience in this company so far has been invaluable in shaping my future career trajectory, as the CFD analysis of electrochemistry (Multiphysics) is an innovative and emerging field. Many within the automotive industry are now changing to electrical (electrochemistry/Multiphysics), and currently, few people know about the optimisation of the Multiphysics models using numerical analysis.
For aspiring engineers or researchers looking to pursue similar opportunities, my advice would be to focus on building a strong foundation in this field through numerical analysis and hands-on experience. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and take on new challenges, as this is where growth often occurs and numerical analysis in Multiphysics is an emerging field for the future.
