4 Mind Practices to Transform your 2023

4 Mind Practices to Transform your 2023

Intro

If you need a book for your end of year that can actually help you changing your life, this is the one: "Mind Power Into the 21st Century", by John Kehoe.

With only 150 pages or so, with BIG letters and very easy to follow, this book from 1996 remains relevant and introduces many mental practices that have really helped me growing, developing and achieving many goals!

Before jumping too quickly into conclusions, let me tell you what is covered in the book and how it can produce results.

The Practices

The book is structured with 19 chapters and additional suggested readings. First two chapters work more like an intro, very short and to the point. Then come a few practices, and then some chapters that implement the practices in different ways.

I have selected for you the practices that helped me more in my personal life. All techniques are effective if applied consistently and over time, e.g. try one of these daily for a month.

1 Visualization ??

First, think about what you want to achieve. Nex, relax for few minutes, just breath and clear your mind. Last, for 5-10 minutes, build your achievement in your brain, make it very real.

The richer you make it look, the better. Keep in mind that you must visualize the new reality as true, not "as if" or adding any condition to it.

? How it helped me? For every single financial goal, I have set to myself over the years. I see the number, I see the numbers in my accounts, I even see my statement of assets used for the tax reporting. It does not exist - at first - until... well, it does.

2 Seeding ??

Follow similar steps of visualization but concentrate on your thoughts and feelings. For that meeting upcoming, how would you feel if your boss comes to you later to praise for a fantastic performance? Feel that.

? How it helped me? I have often paired it with visualization, but it also helps me while preparing to deliver speeches. I feel calm speaking, I feel secure speaking... and then later the speech is successful!

3 Affirmations ??

These can be super powerful, and dangerous. You should repeat, either loud or in your mind, for 2-3 minutes, an empowering statement.

It does NOT have to be true and you DON'T have to believe it at the moment, you just repeat, and it will transform how you perceive reality, little by little. Why is it dangerous?

Choose wisely the words. Only positives, short statement and uncomplicated words. Funny fact: people usually leverage bad affirmations, like "I will never get this". Surprise, it works.

? How it helped me? This one gives me immense strength and also... helps me sleeping! Whenever there are difficulties falling sleep, I start practicing it and never know what happened next! My favorite: "I am successful, healthy and financially free".

4 Intuition ??

We are all open to intuition in different ways and levels, but this technique helps to awaken it more intentionally.

First, spend several minutes thinking about your subconscious mind, you need to assure yourself it is real, and it is available for you.

Next communicate with your subconscious mind, asking your question or explaining what you want.

Finally, let it go and relax, but keep faith that your mind will bring you the answer. The answer won't come immediately, but your mind will keep that up in the priority list and will bring it up when it's ready.

Although the author describes a solution for quick problem resolution, I have found this technique to work more with bigger problems that naturally require more time of contemplation.

? How it helped me? I used this even without knowing it so well when deciding to relocate countries. It serves well for those non-obvious decisions where hopefully all paths would be good, but how to choose the best?

Other techniques discussed in the book

Just for a reference, the follow techniques or topics are also discussed in the book. In my interpretation, they leverage some of the techniques described above and constantly put a positive spin into it.

Acknowledgement (of your strengths), synchronicity (with subconscious mind), interpretation of dreams, contemplations (which read a lot like mindfulness), Limiting Beliefs and Imprinting (replace negative beliefs which are holding you back), Self-Image (re-enforcing self-confidence), Creativity (with suggestions on how to stimulate it).

Observations

Short and practical book, this could be a great companion for your end of year. I am convinced that anyone taking one of the practices and applying it over 2023 will get amazing life results!

  • Easy of reading: 4 stars. I felt it went one step too far into "very easy", would have appreciated if it was just a bit more evaluated. The extreme simplicity has its cost, as at some point you may feel it is just a repetition.
  • Learning something new: 4 stars. First, this is an older book, therefore there is much of its wisdom already out there on the Internet. I still felt it was very positive for me and I could either adopt new techniques or adjust the ones I was using before.
  • Interesting and Engaging: 4 stars. As it is simple to follow and you can immediately try the practices, it naturally engages. Here the trick for me is to immediately do the practices and eventually re-read the chapter, since they are so short.

What didn't work for me in this book?

I would have appreciated more stories being told around the multiple techniques, demonstrating how real people used it to be successful. Some more research evidence would also make the points highlighted stronger.

If you have ever used any of these techniques let me know, also if you have any questions around them!

Thank you Eduardo dos Santos Silva, I will add this book in my reference list for self-help coaching. Used some of those to transform myself. Ideal time to build upon this and link it to the vision board technique as well. Thank you and merry Xmas!

Thanks so much for the reminder Eduardo dos Santos Silva !! I am using the 1/2/3 and just began to hear about the 4th one a few weeks ago. So, I have been quite offline in order to connect with my subconscious and try practices. I am listening "LIVE BIG" (big letters too!) and right now looking at the screen is "14. Intuitive Intelligence" or how to connect with your intuition. Amazing synchronicity !
