In my team's recent discussion about feedback from clients, we identified a common issue among employees who have returned to in-person work after the pandemic: communication gaps. It seems that people are struggling to connect and communicate effectively, which can have unintended consequences and cost both Gen-Z professionals and the companies they work for.
While many companies are excited to see what younger employees can bring to the table, experienced professionals worry that Gen-Z lacks the soft skills needed to communicate their ideas effectively. Clear and concise communication is crucial for getting your message across and ensuring that there is no confusion or misunderstanding.
Interestingly, Gen-Z is one of the most technologically advanced generations in history, but this may have come at a cost. Excessive screen time, exacerbated by Covid-19 lockdowns, may have prevented many in this age group from developing the soft skills needed for effective communication.
To bridge these communication gaps and ensure long-term success for both employees and organizations, several approaches can be taken. I strongly believe that it would be advantageous for Gen-Z to have the chance to communicate with their colleagues face-to-face. Together, you'll create an unbeatable team dynamic that will take your work to the next level.
