4 Keys to Surviving a Setback and Coming Out Stronger
As working from home becomes the new norm, I'm anticipating our work-life balance will turn more into a work-life blend. More likely than not, this will come with a learning curve for many of us. If you're reading this, chances are that you're ready to take action and get back out on the playing field to make things happen.
Whatever position you're in, whether you're looking to make changes to who your business serves or how it operates, maybe you're using this time to sharpen your skill set, or maybe you're using this time to build that business you've always dreamed of, I want to share four keys to surviving a setback and coming back stronger than ever.
#1 Have Discipline—Right now especially, it's easier than ever to just watch Netflix all day and eat ice cream sundaes when you’re under stay-at-home orders. Come to think of it, I could really go for a sundae right now. But keep in mind, those who will succeed in the “corona” economy will have discipline to get things done—even at home. Dedicate a specific area of your home to where you work and can't be bothered. Yes, that also means letting those around you know that when you're working, you are working and can't afford to be distracted every five minutes to play Twister or watch Tiger King. That's not to say you can't enjoy those things or take some time to recharge. However, you need to make sure that there is some degree of discipline in your routine and daily habits that enables you to move the ball forward and get sh*t done!
#2 New Game, New Rules—The old way of doing things isn ’t going to work over the next 60 days. You need to start operating under a new set of rules because the world has changed. Don't fall to the victim mentality of, "I can't wait for this to be over and for the world to return to normalcy." News flash, it ain't gonna happen. I'm not banking on anything to go 100% back to the way it was before this pandemic. Those who pause, pivot, and persist have the best chance of coming out stronger on the other side. Not those who linger, lounge, and go idle.
#3 Say no to “Best Practices and yes to “Only Practices”—If you do something once, it’s worth doing every day. Tighten your schedule and leave out every unnecessary thing and double down on what will bring you additional revenue, or at the very least bring you closer to bringing additional revenue once some of the smoke clears. Get your body moving by performing some form of exercise, focus on your health, reach out to new people and offer to help in any way you can. Whether that includes one of your services or connecting them to someone who can help them immediately, always be growing your network and strengthening relationships. I've said this before and I'll say it again, relationships will become more valuable to doing business than ever before as we move through this Corona Crisis.
#4 Attitude, Skills and Tactics—Not only is your income dependent on these 3 pillars. Getting closer to any of your goals is dependent on these 3 pillars. Don’t be negative despite your surroundings—get your mind right. Sharpen your skills because when the economy is good anybody can make things happen, but now the tide is going out and those without sharpened skills will be exposed and hit hard.
Let's help keep each other motivated and inspired to come out stronger on the other side of this Corona Crisis. All it takes is one idea, action, or moment for the outcome of your life to change. Let's feed off of each others' energy and momentum to help one another get back on the playing field and make big things happen.

4 年1. Education. Taking classes so I can better educate myself. 2. Research. Many businesses will not survive this mess. I'm going to do as many acquisitions as I can and diversify my holdings. 3. Physical exercise. Walking 60 minutes per day. Resistance training to keep muscles and joints healthy.

4 年The key, as #JohnWooden taught, "Don't focus on what you can't do. Focus on what you can do." Good question Michael

4 年Two things I am working on: controlling my emotions and reading every day. With all the fear and anxiety that is being projected during this time, I am just trying to control my emotions by noticing them. When you take the power away from these emotions, you find yourself in a tranquil state. Another thing I am doing is reading books. I think books are timeless mentors and I am just trying to learn as much as I can so I can come out of this situation stronger than I was when I entered ???? I appreciate you Michael for staying positive during this situation!
