Welcome to Edition #4 of my newsletter where I introduce the songs from my album "WORK LIFE BALANCE" one by one with some context and behind-the-scenes information.
Today I am introducing my song KEYS - watch and listen to it here:
WHY I WROTE IT
Love songs have existed as long as music and singing have been around, and I always found it fascinating how the theme of love surpassed cultures, time and genres.
Whoever went through some classical music training like I did also has been learning some latin words for different expressions while playing the music (e.g. crescendo = louder, accelerando = accelerated).
So the question I asked myself when writing this song was: how would a declaration of love sound like while using music jargon and analogies?
BEHIND THE MUSIC
- The song starts with the infamous love ballad wind chimes that we all got very familiar with in the 90s - and I just always wanted to start a song with those!
- The instrument landscape is getting increasingly rich - it starts with piano only and then step by step more instruments from the orchestra join it, reflecting the meaning and evolution of love
- Who recognizes the small little minuet echo at 1:17?
FUN FACTS
- This song was one of the hardest songs for me to record - the lyrics came together pretty quickly, but I couldn't find the way it should sound after many days
- The piano solo at 3:09 was initially not in the recording, but I realized that a song that depicts music on such a meta level needed an instrumental part - and this is how this came together

Loved the music. This song needs a show because it could be a show stopping number.
