Have you reached a point in your career where you are ready to make a major shift in what you do?
Do you want to find work that has more purpose and is more meaningful?
Are you ready to stop following others’ expectations of you?
Are you sick of feeling undervalued and underpaid?
Are you ready to forge your own path instead of doing what’s safe?
Ready to feel excited and inspired by the work you do and have balance in your life?
If you are ready to find, and land your dream job without spending hours online looking for it,
Here are 4 key strategies to do just that.
Be prepared before you start searching
There are 2 things you should always have ready and up to date.? Your resume and your Linked In profile! This is where employers will go to look for you.? And when writing your cover letter, don’t talk about what you want, instead, talk about how you can help a company reach its goals. Look for what success looks like for that particular job and write about what you’ve done can help create that success if you are successful. If you can, use data to back up your value.
Start Connecting
Start preparing a shortlist of anywhere between 3 – 5 companies you’d like to work for and re-search them. You want to make sure that the companies you are looking to move to are going to make you happier than the one you are looking to leave! Try reaching out to people who work at the shortlisted companies that you have something in common with. Take them out for a coffee and have an honest conversation about your desire to work there and wanting to learn a little more.
Network to build “relationships”
I have spoken about networking many times and how this helps in your career search.? However, what I want to add here is don’t make it transactional.? You want to build genuine relationships.? Spend time to nurture these relationships over time as you would any other as well.? Networking isn’t about you, it’s about the person you’re talking to. Be interested in them so you can establish a strong rapport. Remember this, usually the person who can help you is 2 or 3 degrees of separation away. ? And when you have good relationships with your network, they will almost always refer!
Keep an eye open for hidden jobs
By spending time to establish the top 3 points, can help you identify ‘hidden jobs’.? Ones that aren’t found on websites or job boards. Having a strong network can help you find a hidden job or create custom opportunities for yourself.? When you have your Linked In profile speaking as your cover letter and resume should, future employers can see the value you will bring to their company when they are ‘prospecting’.
So, even if you are just toying with the idea of looking to make a change in your career,
