I had the opportunity last week to spend a few days with owners of some of the top roofing companies in North America, at a private event in Arizona.
I gave a presentation to the group, and hopefully added a lot of value. But I was also a sponge for the 3 days, learning as much as I could from some pretty smart people.
Based on the conversations I had, these are the 4 most important characteristics of the high-achieving business owners and managers in the group:
1?? Fanatical Focus on Numbers - Goals, finances, number of new hires needed to hit goals, budgets, etc.
2?? Obsessed with Systems - A successful business is a collection of systems. Limit the number of random and customized things that happen in an organization. Systematize as much as possible.
3?? Make Time to Improve Systems - Systems aren't a "set it and forget it" thing. Always look for ways to improve what's working, and make time to work on system improvement as a team.
4?? Abundance Mentality - No explanation needed.
I brought these lessons back to our team, and we're working on implementing them.
