Reader says in head: "What's content production?"
Well before I jump into things, let me put down my definition of content production.
Content Production: The process of developing and creating visual, audio, or written assets such as videos, infographics, social media content and more.
Now content creation is fun and exhilarating! But it isn't a random process, there are specific goals, steps and stages that one must take prior to their rollout. When looking at developing content, you have to look at each individual step.
It is like when you are looking at instructions for putting a toy set together. As a kid you are so excited you want to just put the pieces together and play because you want to create some so freaking impressive! But right before you create, your parents grab you lightly and say "wait let's look at the instructions."
Well, today I'm here to let you know, that same message your parents said applies to creating content. You have to carefully review all steps before putting together the most awesome "lego castle" ever! Train yourself to take these steps.
So, let's break it down:
- Audience
- Length or Amount
- Actions
- Analytical Measures
Audience: Who are you creating this content for?
Length/Amount: How long will this content piece be? How many assets are you creating? And why?
Actions: Do you want your audience to comment on the piece? Retweet? Repost? View? What do you want them to do after watching or looking at the content?
Analytical Measures: Review your analytics. How many people clicked on it? What source are the coming from? Did you use appropriate keywords? How successful was your social media ad push? Are you targeting the right audience?
These steps are important for creating engaging content but also for developing an efficient rollout plan. Great content isn't great if no one hears or sees it.
So, go write these steps down and make your awesome content...or lego castle!
