In general, election results across the world are fascinating. At this point in time of our history, as the election results come from various countries, we seem to have common threads running. These common factors seem to be - Incumbency, Ideology, Inflation, Immigration and Unemployment
In India, it was Incumbency, Ideology, Inflation and Unemployment – the ruling party BJP scraped through supported by various allies and got a jolt as their numbers plummeted. In UK, the Labour party won decisively. The Conservatives had a huge negative incumbency problem and Inflation combined with Unemployment, finally did them in. In the US, the Presidential Race is heating up and the key factors playing out there are Inflation, Immigration and Unemployment. In Netherlands, it is a coalition but the party that won the highest number of seats did that on Ideology (far right) and Immigration. Netherlands has come down very hard on immigration (refugees and asylum seekers) and international students studying in Netherlands. Most elections in Europe are voting Right Wing parties based on Immigration, Inflation and Unemployment.

From initial discussions I can see that focus in the US Elections will be more on Immigration and Economy rather than Abortion, Guns, etc. It could see someone like Michelle Obama replacing Biden when the Democratic Party decide on their Presidential Nominee. Large parts of Europe have gone the way of Right Wing. India has given the Right Wing one more chance. Will US vote for Republicans?
Many elections are scheduled for this 2nd half of 2024. It would be worth the while if politicians started focusing on the above 4 Is and 1 U and discuss solutions with their voters. People are getting tired of rhetoric and want action. The UK and Indian elections were a clear signal in this direction. The signal is also clearly asking politicians to focus on their own country and not poke their noses in to the politics of other countries. People are saying – protect our borders from immigration, aggressors, refugees, etc. We are tired of paying for people coming in to our countries from elsewhere and then dictating terms. Create environments for better jobs and earnings so that our standards of living improve. Start focusing on us and not on other countries!!! Hope the politicians across the world and especially in these so called super-powers like US, China and Russia are listening.
