4 Helpful AI Tips to 10x Your Team's Output

4 Helpful AI Tips to 10x Your Team's Output

If you’re not humanizing your AI, you’re doing it wrong.?

Businesses are right to be excited about the ways Chat GPT-4 and other AI tools can maximize their efficiency and exponentially increase their output — and, of course, profits.

But with a sea of options, it’s tricky to know the best way to use AI to enable your team, especially when considering the tidal wave of technologies emerging every day, each offering the next great fix.

Don’t worry: We’ve got your back.

We reached out to our user-owned community of high-caliber tech Talent and tech team managers to discover how many of them are using AI effectively to get transformative improvements to their team's output.

Here are the 4 key insights you need to know.

#1 The best Talent use AI to not sweat the small stuff, so they can focus on the big picture.

Early versions of Chat-GPT weren’t quite good enough for coding, Braintrust Talent Andrew Nelson says. Still, the full stack developer quickly found other uses for the novel technology.?

“I was able to complete 4 hours of research and testing in 10 minutes,” Nelson told us.

AI effectiveness can vary greatly depending on your team’s level of expertise.

We found that 65% of the 1,100 respondents to our Braintrust survey saw their efficiency increase by at least 25% — and 36% saw it increase by 50% or more.

AI gives you a world of information at your fingertips.?

However, you only get answers to the questions you ask, which means it’s pivotal to make sure you are asking the right questions.

You do that by having the right people in place. Expert Talent can use their skill and experience to direct AI toward results that actually matter.

Even better? By getting better results with AI, and more efficiently, your team can focus more of their time on deeper level work.

“It saves you tons of time as it adapts to your coding style,” says Saad Nadeem, who has been using GitHub Copilot since its launch in 2021.

AI is not going to replace workers: It’s going to be the “Iron Man suit” that allows them to do more and be more. That’s what Braintrust co-founder Adam Jackson, an investor and four-time entrepreneur, believes. Learn how Adam Jackson is empowering the Braintrust team with AI to make us 50% more efficient.?

#2 The key to mastering AI is to master prompting with expert Talent.

With the latest GPT-4 update, Nelson’s early skepticism about its coding utility vanished.?

“An absolute coding monster,” Nelson says of GPT-4, which has created “a learning and productivity increase that is hard to calculate, it’s so profound.”

A key reason for his increased output: Nelson moved from asking small, specific, granular questions to offering full project specifications and requirements for classes and methods.

“The results are very accurate the majority of the time, its answers are occasionally profound, and it is consistently faster than a human,” Nelson said.

Businesses looking to maximize their AI results can work to create more specific and well-developed project outlines, and also set aside time for their Talent to experiment with different types of prompts.?

“I’m using DALL-E-2 to find inspiration,” says Mathias Rota, a visual designer, who queries the AI with various prompts to help flesh out his projects.?

#3 Find great Talent, and investing in more tech isn’t as necessary.

One key takeaway: It’s the Talent that make the tool, not the other way around.

When we asked what AI coding tools they used, 85% of more than 3,000 respondents said they used Chat-GPT — with only 15% using alternatives like Co-Pilot or IntelliSense.?

The consensus: While coding-specific AI tools exist, paying additional subscription fees to use them is likely unnecessary.?

That’s great news for businesses. After all, with so many AI coding options out there, one could hardly blame you for facing significant decision paralysis trying to sort through them all.

Chat-GPT is more than enough IF you hire the right Talent to use it (and it’s affordable too, at $20/month for its latest version and free-to-use for earlier ones.)

“I think of it less as a job eliminator and more as an ironman suit,” says Eric Clayton, an operations project specialist and contractor with the Barilla Group.

#4 Keep up on the most popular AI tools to maximize team efficiency.

Knowing that AI can improve your team’s capacity is just the first step. The next part is harder: figuring out which tools to actually use, and how to best use them.?

Here are just some of the most popular AI tools for teams to increase their speed and accuracy while building code:

  • OpenAI Codex: the AI coding assistant works for over a dozen programming languages, including Python, JavaScript, Perl, Ruby, Go, Shel, Swft, and TypeScript, and is trained on billions of lines of code through the OpenAI model that drives Chat GPT-4.
  • GitHub Copilot: a cloud-based AI tool that optimizes code for speed and accuracy, with dozens of programming languages at its disposal using public code collected on GitHub.
  • SnykCode: a dev-first SAST tool that learns from open source code repositories and provides code reviews, helping engineers catch critical issues and improve code quality .
  • Embold: a software analytics platform that uses AI to analyze code, detect anti-patterns, and suggest improvements, enhancing code quality and maintainability .

Optimizing your team with AI isn’t just about making the best code possible. It’s also about making the entire product development process more efficient with AI tools like …

  • DevTeam.Space: an agile development process platform that helps manage the product development process, track developer performance, and identify potential roadblocks.
  • Fireflies.AI: a notetaker that not only automates meeting transcriptions, but also documents decisions made, responsibilities given, and needed follow-ups.
  • Replicon: an AI time tracking tool that unifies projects, billing, and compliance, making it possible to automatically capture time across more than 100 work apps.
  • Genei: an AI research tool that allows you to rapidly conduct research for projects using keywords and topics, and provides rapid content overviews to help you quickly decide which sources are actually worth using.

BONUS: Hire expert Talent at the right price, using live market rate data.

In a competitive environment, it can be tricky to know what a fair rate is for bringing on the type of Talent that can maximize AI with their expertise and skill set.

Making matters worse, many talent matching platforms charge extractive fees on both talent and clients (at Braintrust, we charge industry-low fees of just 10% on clients, and zero fees for Talent).

As often is the case with hiring, research is key. Still, pay rates are often opaque. Thankfully, our users have worked together to provide a completely transparent network.

Clients can simply check out the live network dashboard at any time, and see the average market rates for services.

The rates for specific skills are updated every four hours, and are searchable by role (Engineering, Design, Product, and Other) as well as region (US or Global).
