4 Great Pilates Moves to Try on a Surfboard

People enjoy Pilates classes for many different reasons. But many agree that a mat class versus a Reformer class is very different. When Float Pilates was born, the blend of both mat and reformer movements were found easily adapted to the Surfset balance boards for the perfect blend of both. Float Pilates uses the Surfset board and resistance bands to align, lengthen and tone your total body. 

 

The best Pilates leg toners are intensified when performed on the boards. Here are 4 Pilates exercises to try on the Surfset boards.

1. Swan.

Start on your belly with arms in front and legs slightly lifted. Rock the board forward and back as you raise your arms and legs alternately. ( The rock of the boards adds resistance front to back but makes you stay equally working with the side-to-side balance).

2. Side leg circles. 

Start on you side with front hand on the Point of the board and one kneeling for a side body knee plank. Lift the top leg and circle 15 times both directions. (The side knee plank is more focused with the movement of the leg.)

3. Standing Plie. 

Plies work the quads and thighs so well on the floor but add in the rock of the Surfset board and you'll find yourself working harder on the weaker side. 

4. Bridge.

This simple movement laying on the board facing up may feel like a motor boat just drove past when you lift your hips off the board and they challenge to stay balanced. The good news, you'll be working the back hamstrings and gluten in an equal distribution of contraction.
