So, every day for the last few weeks you've been applying for jobs on Seek, LinkedIn and Job Search Qld. You’ve done the right thing by calling the employer's to see how your application is going and you're frustrated that the process is taking it's sweet ass time.
I feel ya... I've been there, trying to speak to anyone that might know of any suitable opportunities. You keep coming up against a brick wall. Finding a job is a very competitive game and you need to make finding a job, your full-time job.
However, I've got 4 clever ways to get yourself noticed over your competition.
1. Make A Video
To get your foot in the door you need to market yourself and stand out from the crowd.
Sending a well-crafted video will get you bypassing the gate keeper, get the bosses attention and win you the job.
The beauty of this, is that you can send the video to their mobile phone, email address, or one of several different social media platforms.
It's argued that a video of yourself will be the resume of tomorrow.
2. Send Half of Your Resume
Find 5 companies you want to work for. Write a top-notch cover letter on why you are a great fit for their team.
Highlight that they should read your resume which is enclosed. Don’t seal the envelope completely and don’t enclose a resume.
Yes! That's right I said DON'T enclose your resume. They’ll think the resume fell out in the post.
Someone from the company will call you to have a chat and ask for the rest of your resume.
Remember to expect the call and sell yourself over the phone.
3. Create an E-Book
Write an ebook with relevant information for the industry of your choice.
If you've just left school you could write about the up's and downs of finding a job in the industry, or subjects you've studied that relate to that industry.
The best things in life are for free and everybody loves a freebie. You can provide information and be seen as somewhat of an expert, or a future thought leader.
Email the ebook out and advertise it to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter groups where hiring managers, business owners and recruiters will see it.
Make sure you give it away for free!!
4. Call The HR Department
Saaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy Whhhaaaaaatttttt?! That's right... You heard me.... Pick up the phone and call the HR Dept.
Ask them what recruitment agency they use. They will ask you why you want to know.
Let them know, that their company is not presently looking for someone with your skillset.
You're assuming, that the recruiters will be working with other businesses and you're looking for a recommendation.
It's possible that they might ask you in for an interview. If not at least you've got a lead to work with.
Businesses love to save money and especially agency fees.
Being recommended gives you extra special attention and make sure you send them a thank you note.
These are strategies that can give you the winning edge.
