4 Expert Tips to Comment Better on LinkedIn

Alright, so you want to build a personal brand.

But you’ve got no idea where to start.

LinkedIn commenting is the easiest place to get started.?

However, instead of leaving robotic and monotonous comments like, “Thanks for the insightful post,” or the dreaded “commenting for better reach,” there’s a better way.

Here are four awesome tips you could follow to level up your commenting game:

Talk about your unique perspective

Instead of saying “very interesting,” try to point out what you found interesting and provide your unique perspective around the post. Here are some ways you could force yourself to think of new ideas:

  • Think of something new you could add to the post
  • Try to tie the post to something you have experienced and talk about that
  • Try to create analogies from the post to a parallel field

Challenge Ideas

Try to spark a healthy debate by challenging an idea presented in the post. Here’s a cool template:

  • Very interesting. How would this approach work in [think of a different context]
  • I’ve personally noticed that [alternative approach] works better in [other situations]. I’d love your thoughts.

Share a relevant resource

If the post is about personal branding and you happen to have access to a cheat sheet, just spread the word. Or better yet, if you’ve got a lead magnet of your own that happens to talk about the very exact thing the post is about, go ahead and post it.

Anecdotes and short stories

I love anecdotes - especially when they help me understand the finer nuances of a LinkedIn post. For instance, if a post is about sales, and you happen to be a VP of sales, talk about that one time you got a funky cold call or something that sales folks might dig.

Your experiences might unravel something for someone you don’t know - you could spark that fire within people :)
