4 Essential Tips when using Essential!
Enterprise Architecture Solutions Ltd
Essential is the EA tool built by award winning enterprise architects
Read our latest checklist of hints and tips that you may have missed - all designed to make using Essential even easier.
1.Easily capture the Data Objects that are contained in your feeds in the Application Editor
The Application Editor allows an easy drag and drop approach to creating dependencies between your Applications, and to adding the details about the Information exchanged between them.? Using the Editor Builder, it is easy to extend this to enable the addition of the data objects that are exchanged.
2.Easy Import via the EA Assistant
Some of our users found it confusing that the spreadsheet import function opened in a different tab and exported as a csv file.? We have, therefore, introduced the EA Assistant which can be used for importing the Foundation Launchpad.? It opens in the viewer and exports as an excel file, allowing roundtripping for bulk updates to your data.? The import can add or merge, and you can pick the option that best meets your needs for each import.

3.Create Individualised Portals for your Users
One of the things we always stress is the importance of creating individualised portals for your different users or user roles.? The views and dashboards a CIO wants to see will be very different from those an Application Architect will want to see, so don’t send them all to one portal and make them work out which view to use!
See the short video here to learn how to create portals (watch from 3:39)
4.Dynamically display Meta Model changes in Views
Any meta model changes that you make linking a class to an enumeration will be automatically picked up and displayed in the summary views of that class.? Simply extend the model as required, add it to your chosen editor to capture/maintain it and see it straight away in the Summary view – quick and easy.
