In our last Contagious Leadership Podcast Ep. 73, we had entrepreneur, family man, life coach & founder of Forge Legend, Coach Kevin Voisin , join us for our first episode of 2023.
In this conversation, Coach Kevin shares with us 4 key tips that are going to help you stay motivated and hit your 2023 targets. But before we get into those golden tips, you must set yourself up for success.
How to Set Yourself Up For Success
In 2023, you need to be honest with yourself. It’s easy to live in La La Land but you must be realistic with where you are and where you want to be.
By understanding these two key elements, you’re able to establish the foundation, map out a game plan to get to your desired target, and make the progress needed to get to where you want to be.?
For example, if you want to save $3,000 by March and you know that you have $0 saved at the moment, you can now make a plan to save that $3,000. The key here is to truly understand where you’re at in life so you can make a realistic game plan to get to where you want to be.
Coach Kevin teaches his clients to focus on the 5 main categories in life: Fitness, Faith, Family, Finance, and Fun. If you understand where you are and where you want to be within each of the categories, you can follow the 4 tips we’re going to get into, to achieve your targets.
Focusing On Your Goal
Many people can easily name off their New Years Resolutions, but when it comes to working towards them, their effort is a big flop.
Coach tells us that setting targets and actually achieving them is about doing the hard work worth doing.
Without doing the hard work worth doing, you won’t move any closer to your target.
It’s important to identify exactly what is worth doing to you.
For instance, you may want to lose 20 lbs but you aren’t willing to do the hard work in order to lose the 20 lbs.
It’s all about finding a target that is important enough to you, for you to justify doing the hard work worth doing.
How to Hit Your Target?
Now that you’ve set yourself up for success and understand you have to do the hard work worth doing, if you want to hit your 2023 targets here are 4 tips to help you get to your desired goal.
Tip 1: Be Specific
Don’t cheat yourself on this tip. You must be specific about what you want, how you want it, and when you want it.
If you’re looking to get fit, you need to be more specific. Try writing down every small detail about what your target is, how you're going to get it, and when you're going to get it. You don't want to make general statements when setting targets.
“If you don’t know what you want, you already have it”?
For example, if you want to lose weight, you should tell yourself that you want to be fit by losing 20 lbs in 3 months, and you want to do this by working out 4 days a week at 7 AM before work.
You need to know exactly what you want.
Stop being vague in 2023 and start getting specific with what you truly want.
Tip 2: Identify What’s Working and What’s Not Working
When setting targets, you don’t have to completely change every aspect of your life.

For this tip, you should grab your journal and ask yourself what is working for you and what is not working for you.
Try making a list of things that are working for you and not working for you (regarding hitting your target). Going back to the fitness example, say that you already wake up at 6:00 AM and that works for your fitness plan so you decide to continue doing this. But you don’t have energy in the mornings because you don’t eat breakfast, which is currently not working for you. You can continue to wake up at 6 AM and you can make changes to begin eating breakfast in the mornings since not eating breakfast in the mornings wasn’t working in your previous routine.
It’s as simple as identifying what’s working and what’s not working, and keeping what’s working and altering what’s not working.
Don't forget that success is about trial and error, it's okay to reassess the changes you made and make further changes.

Tip 3: Be Consistent
This tip is easier said than done. Once you've gotten specific and changed the things in your life that aren't working for you, you need to focus on staying consistent with your target.
If you want to lose the 20 lbs, work on staying consistent and dedicated towards working on your target.
Remember, you can choose the frequency at which you work on this target. Whether it's daily, weekly, monthly, or at anyr frequency you choose, STAY CONSISTENT.
If you’re having troubles with being consistent, try making yourself a daily To-Do list. Some people find it very rewarding to be able to mark off the small tasks as they go about their day. Remember, a To-Do list is a tool to assist YOU, so make it work for you.
In the case that your To-Do list isn't working for you, you can try using a habit journal or wellness journal. It's similar to a simple To-Do list but it may appear more stimulating and satisfying to you if you enjoy a more colorful and interactive experience when it comes to tracking your progress. You can search habit journals or wellness journals on the internet and find physical/virtual products you can buy or you can go over to Canva and use an existing template or edit a current template to fit your needs.
Just remember that we live in a world where the internet has all the tools we need. If a To-Do list or habit journal isn't working for you, there is a tool that will.
Tip 4: Identify Who You Are When You Hit The Target
It can be helpful to think about the person you want to become as a result of achieving your target.
You can do this using different methods but Coach Kevin says that using ‘I am” statements can help you start to embody who you are when you hit your target.
For instance, tell yourself “I am 20 lbs lighter,” and although you haven't hit your target yet, you're tricking your subconscious into hearing a positive affirmation.
Another tip is to visualize yourself as if you already hit your target. Grab a journal and write down your target as if you have achieved it and visualize what your life is like. Going off the weight loss example, you may write an entry like, "I'm so proud of myself for sticking with my target and taking time to eat a healthy breakfast and go to the gym in the mornings, even after I've lost the 20 lbs. I've been having to shop for new clothes since my old ones don't fit and I'm still continuing to eat a healthy diet. I've also been posting a lot more on social media since I feel more confident in my skin. Overall, I feel more energized, motivated, confident, and have grown more self-love. I am so proud of myself." Whatever your target may be, visualizing it and feeling it will help you achieve it.
A pro tip that’ll help tie all of this together, is to truly believe that you have it. It may seem silly but beginning to believe you have it, knowing what it feels like to have it, and starting to live your life as if you have it will help you hit your target sooner. By believing you've achieved your target, you'll begin to do things as if you've achieved your target.
What would you be doing if you already possessed your target?
