If you`re thinking about starting an online business or just considering the idea, you probably already know that something is not right in your life and you want to see if it could be a good solution for what you`re trying to achieve. Fair enough!
My intention today is to provide you with massive value in this article. No one likes to make mistakes and being forced into a wrong decision. It`s just human nature. What you`re about to read is a list of what I consider to be the most critical mistakes I made when taking the first steps online.
When I say critical… I mean, deadly!
When it comes to starting a profitable online business there are a few caveats you need to pay attention. You just don`t throw stuff at the wall in hopes that it sticks.
Can you imagine what it takes to be successful online these days?
There`s no specific formula but you will definitely not get there without persistence, dedication, investment of time and resources and most importantly the right vehicle.
By right vehicle, I mean a business model specific to your needs and aspirations. What your friend told you about starting a business and considered to be a good opportunity might not be the best solution for you. So, relying on my experience so far running a business online and being apart of a multi-million dollar company, I`m gonna share you my best tips and mistakes you should avoid if you want to crush your start online.
Let get into it then…
#1 Not Narrowing Your Focus
It`s very easy when you start your own business online or offline to be caught in the little things that don`t help you move forward. A lot of entrepreneurs are running around saying they`re too busy. The problem is that busyness is a form of laziness. I know it contradicts some of the information you have in your head but let me explain…
There is a great book called “The One Thing,” by Gary Keller. He talks about how you can get the most out of your time and getting the important stuff done by asking yourself: “what`s the one thing I can do right now that if I do that, it would make everything else seem unnecessary?”
Now, think about this… you could be running around pretty busy but are you actually doing the thing or things that produce results? It`s very simple for me. For example, the most return I get from my time is when I`m setting up ad campaigns for my business. Not organizing my desk or checking how many likes I have on the last post on Instagram. Do you get it?
It`s a matter of prioritizing and even considering not doing the things that don`t produce results.
#2 Not Believing In Your Offer
If you want to burn your internet business into the ground, just start selling something you don`t believe in. People that already work in sales know the importance of having absolute conviction in what they`re selling. How can you help someone make a decision to buy your product when you don`t even believe in it yourself?
It`s crazy! That`s suicide mission, my friend.
One of the ways to eliminate the doubt is to buy the product or going throw that program yourself. At least this way you have an in-depth understanding of what you’re promoting, if what you`re selling isn`t built by you. Of course, if you built the program yourself, you know all the features and benefits but that`s not enough.
Like I said to you in the beginning, you can understand it but still not believing in it. A more powerful approach in my experience, to build trust with the product is to look at what it did to other people`s lives. Did it provide true transformation in that person`s life? Does it really help people or is it just another average product on the market?
These questions are essential to ask yourself before you attempt to promote any offer.
#3 Having Limiting Beliefs Around Money
I must admit it… I went through this myself! There`s a lot of articles out there talking about surface stuff. You know, things like saying that you got to understand who`s the buyer for the product, what`s the price you want to charge, that you need to have a business plan and on and on. Don`t get me wrong those are important.
But let`s just get to the core, the mindset, the deep stuff. You know what I mean…
Look, if you have some kind of limiting beliefs around money, I`m just gonna tell you the way it is. You must get over those if you want to succeed big in business. Now, if you just want to be average like everybody else, that`s your choice. But, assuming you want to create an extraordinary life without limitations you got to face the bogeyman.
Have you ever been told that money is the root of all evil, heard that money is not that important, that rich people are skanks or that there`s just not enough of it to go around?
If you`re nodding your head right now, you probably have limiting beliefs around money. So, how will that affect you when starting a business?
Well, very simple. You won`t understand how much more you think you need to invest in order to make the business profitable, you come in with false expectations and guess what happens next… you start blaming the business model, the people around it, your customers, if you have any and worst than that, you start believing it doesn`t work. “Oh, this online business thing must be a scam!” – you say.
You will not have the necessary expansion to even be profitable when you`re constantly worried about pennies. It doesn`t work like that. I`m not saying you need to go out and blow your capital unconsciously, I`m saying that the best way to approach the first stages is to know what you`re doing and focus your financial efforts on what matters without being frugal or scared about bankruptcy.
#4 Thinking You Need To Have Everything Figured Out
I could say that beliefs around money have a big impact on your success as an online business owner, but you know what, that`s not the biggest factor… let`s go a little bit deeper here.
When I started my journey online as everyone, I truly believed I needed to have every aspect of my business figured out in my head.
How much money I would make in the next 6 months, exactly how many people I would help, what kind of software I would need to operate the business, precisely what needed to happen to achieve those goals and this is important, to sum it all, I was trying to make sense of what would happen in the future.
Look, nobody can predict the future. You just can`t gain certainty on what`s gonna happen. The only way to do it is by walking down that path, then you will figure it out. It`s part of the human condition, trying to see what`s gonna work even before attempting to do it.
How do you know if going to gym and dieting is gonna work for you if you haven`t tried it? You know it works for others because they went down that path and got results.
The single most frightening feeling that starting entrepreneurs face is the fear of the unknown. This ties it all down with the need for certainty. Fear is just an illusion, it`s not real, listen… embrace the fact that building a business is messy and you will not – I guarantee you this – figure out everything unless you actually start doing it.
The Biggest Advantages Of Online Business Few Talk About
Whatever business model you choose to go with, remember that not everyone is cut out to succeed with that choice. Same thing in sports, not everyone can be an Olympic athlete, let alone a gold medalist. Don`t underestimate the amount of effort, dedication, persistence, capital and hours it takes to make it work, regardless of what kind of online business you want to start.
The beauty of an online business is that you don`t need to be physically present in order to operate it. In fact, you can decide to work from anywhere in the world as long as you have a laptop and an internet connection. You can implement automated systems that run 24/7 and generate income while you`re sleeping.
Take this article as an example, I only need to write it once and it`s constantly driving people to my website and potentially making sales – if I know what I`m doing, that is.
People are searching on the internet for certain topics where this content could appear. I don`t need to knock on doors or do cold calling, talking to people and saying: “hey come see my article!”
The issue with most brick and mortar businesses is that they`re less scalable. The owner is tied down to an address, a limited number of people visiting the store per day and if he wants to serve more people he has to develop new infrastructures, hire more employees and consequently investing more capital, opening new locations.
Now, that doesn`t happen when you do business online. Even though you could hire people to help you with some other tasks, the costs associated with scaling the business are far less compared to a traditional business, plus you can serve a global audience without being stuck in one location. Revenue-wise, there`s pretty much unlimited potential online.
I truly hope I delivered on the promise in the beginning and you got some value out of the discussion.
Now, there`s no reason why you should make these mistakes when you decide to build your online business, it probably sounds overwhelming at the start but anything that`s worth fighting for doesn`t come easy. There`s also plenty of business ideas out there but one thing I recommend to you…
Don`t fall into the idea of fast money online. There`s no such thing as getting rich quick and the best way to build a business is with integrity, values and purpose.
If you have any questions about this topic, I would be more than happy to help you out, just shoot me a message or a comment and I`ll get back you when I can.
Wish you an amazing day,
