The 4 "C''s of team selection
Design and construction projects demand expertise across a broad spectrum. From Architects to Acousticians, the necessary skill set is huge. Our industry approaches this challenge by building teams of experts from different organizations who, together, have the skills to solve the technical challenges. While these teams may have the expertise necessary, bundling the talent and delivering the desired product often leaves us frustrated and disappointed. How do you build a team that can outperform your expectations? Try using the 4 "C"s of team selection.
1) Competence. Each project requires certain unique areas of expertise. Team members must bring a necessary skill and the ability to deliver it.
2) Commitment. Team members must be able to take ownership of the overall project goals and focus their skills on solving these challenges.
3) Character. Each member of the team must quickly rely on the others in order to perform their work. Selecting for character allows you to put your trust in people who you know are trustworthy.
4) Culture. No matter how skilled you are, if you can't work with the rest of the team you aren't doing us any good. Make sure your team members personality and expectations mesh with the culture of the team.

10 年Very true summary of key team member traits. I conduct culture workshops for the crew of US Navy ships and we work through a process that works through communication, trust and integrity, Character along with ability and truthfulness define trust. Do you trust a team member? If not, is it character, ability or truthfulness? Always an interesting process with a large organization in a challenging environment.
