4 Components to Intentional Change Management

1. Employees are invested in the change
?Does your team understand the need for the change? Do they know what problem this change will solve? Do they understand your why and believe in the direction?
You need to have champions of the change to help you with getting buy-in from the entire team. If your employees do not have buy-in on why the change is necessary, you are already failing in your change management efforts.
2. Getting the right people at the table at the right time
Who are the decisions maker? Who is the budget authority? Who is the owner of the new product? What components of IT will be touched and what other expertise is needed at the table? Playing catch up on change management isn’t impossible, but if you fall behind, you get in trouble fast! Identify the right people to have at the table and get them there early so they can plan, prepare, seek understanding, and be thoroughly prepared to implement the change successfully.

3. Communication plan
?Regardless of the scale of impact, if people will be impacted by the change, you need to communicate with them regularly. What is your plan for providing regular communication updates. In addition, change up your method of communication. Emails are great but you also need to think about presentations (roadshows), newsletters, status updates, and regular meeting updates. Identify those key communication points early and stick to the schedule of communication. If there is a change, explain why the change to communication plan is necessary and provide an update of the new plan.
4. Be Transparent
The more you honestly share about the planned change, the more likely your team will understand the change. Team members appreciate honesty, even if it comes with bad news. They want to know that they can trust their leadership. Be honest with them and help them fully understand the need for change. It will pay off.
