4 Bright Ideas For Generating Greater Sales Numbers

All week long, the Canadian POS Corporation Blog has been focused on the concept of boosting sales, growing customer bases and outdoing competitors. It’s certainly a great time of year to concentrate on this topic. Now that summer is here, there will be more opportunities to welcome customers into your store as Canadians will be spending a less time inside their homes. It’s up to you to find ways to encourage them to visit you!

What can you do to generate greater sales numbers at your store? Here are four bright ideas:

1. Create your own holiday celebration.

In our last blog, we pointed out that the summertime is filled with fun holidays including Canada Day and the Civic Holiday in August. But that doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to the number of holiday celebrations that take place at your store. Why not come up with your own holiday and promote a special in-store event and sale around it?

“Create a holiday of your own,” encourages Matthew Hudson on TheBalanceSMB.com, “Consider fun things that your store does or sells and the customers who shop with you and then make a holiday around it. For example, in my shoe stores, we celebrated National Hamburger Day. Granted the only connection was that shoes and burgers are both made from cows, but making an event out of it drew a lot of people.”

2. Become buddies with your customers.

We’re not suggesting that you hang out with your customers on the weekend. However, when they visit your store, it’s imperative that you do more than simply help them to find the products they’re looking for. Friendly chats can go a long way. Not only will they help you to establish first-name basis relationships, they will allow you to learn about what your customers are really interested in.

“Make it your business to give your customers what they want, and they will do business and buy from you,” advises Bob Nelson on BusinessKnowHow.com, “The products and services you provide should reflect your customers needs and wants. Think in your customers’ terms; buy, show, sell, and say things that interest them, not just what interests you. Remember, it is the customer that determines whether or not you succeed.”

3. Make your store visually stimulating.

The cooler your store looks, the more likely it will be to compel customers to enter it. The summertime is a fun-filled season. Be sure to get into the spirit by having special displays that are rich with colour and cool imagery. Pump up the music and make your store feel like it’s a party. Of course, this will work better for some businesses than others. But, don’t forget that making great customer experiences works for every business.

“Take advantage of cross-merchandising strategies and impulse sale opportunities,” suggests Hudson, “Use lighting techniques and creative displays to attract customers. Play videos for product education, customer entertainment and any other upsell or promotional tie-in. Involve all of the senses in your visual merchandising. Remember, an energetic store is a magnet.”

4. Sell gift cards.

At Canadian POS Corporation, we have long proven that when stores sell gift cards, they end up enjoying repeat business, a boost in new customers and increased sales all year long.
